Hmm ... you're right, it does sound a bit too rude. I hereby humbly apologize to any and all bats, flying foxes and other mammals capable of flight who might be reading this and are currently trying to figure out how to type a reply. Y'all are cool. Weird, but cool. ;)

It looks like a cheap, fuzzy Halloween decoration in the most cheesy way possible, as if someone took the model of a regular boring black bat and recolored it in the "classic" Halloween color scheme to make it look "spooky". If I'd encounter such a creature in a videogame or movie, I'd laugh at the absurdity. It looks so fake.

Nope. They're real.

Instead of big swarms, they usually live alone or in family units of three during part of the year—an adult male and a female and their one offspring. The bright and broken coloration of these bats may be a form of camouflage to protect them, as they have been reported to blend in with dried leaves and flowers when they roost. They're insectivores who hunt at night.

Nature, you're weird sometimes.

Triceratops already means "Three-Horned Face" =P It's just Greek instead of Latin.

... and if you don't know I'm not going to explain it.

Similar thing with "Easter", which comes from the name of Ēostre, the Germanic goddess of Spring. The origins of that holiday have nothing to do with Christianity, but the day and name were hijacked by Christians sometime in the mid-2nd century.

"Goodbye" exists because of 15th century chatspeak. It's a highly abbreviated version of "God be with ye"

... not mine, but it perfectly sums up the current year.

My guess is that's either a typo and was supposed to be "shipped", or that they deliberately chose the word shifted ("to exchange for or replace by another") in order to combine the numbers of sales and repairs into one statistic so it looks bigger. After Nintendo was mass-sued about the poor quality of their C-sticks, they were ordered to replace / repair any stick drift issues for free even outside of the warranty period, and people naturally used that feature.

I for one had to send my joycons in for repair six times since buying the switch, so in that statistic my hardware would have been sold once, but "shifted" seven times.

Have you tried vinegar and baking soda? Those are basically the default at-home stench-and-stain removers any household should have.

Same with guest rooms. In my area, almost all "old" houses have a room that is kept neat and tidy but unused until guests come over - basically wasted space specifically reserved for other people not living under that roof. And the boomers here get confused about why newer houses (especially rental appartements) don't have that oh-so-important feature anymore.

Imagine an entire effing room and everything in it (furniture included) getting the "fine china" treatment and old people being offended that "the youth today" has the audacity to invite guests into the regular boring non-special living room.

Yeah it happens once or twice a year, if you're lucky ... =P

But joke aside, I think he was just too embarrassed to be angry.

The only example I personally encountered "in the wild" was Disney's Tarzan, where Phil Collins insisted on singing the songs in different languages himself. It was a bit surreal to hear him sing in German, and frankly it is very noticable that it isn't his mother tongue.

Just in case you want to listen to an example: "Son of Man", sung by Collins, in ...

On the other hand, I do appreciate the effort. Letting someone else do it would have been easier for him, but instead he sat down and learned a ton of phonetical lines by heart, in four different languages - none of which he understands. For all seven or so voiced songs in the movie.

Bathroom products. In fact, they're currently located between the TP/paper towel section and the liquid soap dispensers & refill bags.

Granted, they DO look like white chocolate or something similar, but the product placement, package and the fact that it did not taste like food should have been rather obvious hints to maybe check the package again instead of driving all the way back to the store to yell at the employees. At least he had the decency to be embarrassed about it instead of starting the usual "you lost a customer, I'll never shop here again" shouting match, which is a big plus.

PS: he got a refund, but only because he was polite as soon as he realized his mistake. Normally, any sort of hygiene product is excluded from refunds, especially when it has bite marks.

I work in customer service. I wouldn't say that 90% of ALL people are stupid, but an astounding number of the people I have to deal with have ... unique ways of thinking, so to speak.

The most recent example was an olderly man who was absolutely furious because a box of candy he bought for his wife "tasted absolutely disgusting". We're talking about something similar to this but I won't link our actual product as I don't feel comfortable sharing that information.

Either way, those are friggin' bath bombs. It says so on the effing package. Just because they're labeled "vegan" doesn't mean that they're edible FFS!

On the other hand,, "knocked down" and "knocked up" have drastically different meanings, which is a little confusing for foreigners sometimes. =P

I'm planning to buy 12 months of NOS soon, and in the past I usually bought the "family plan" and then sold the 7 additional slots to people on reddit. There does not seem to be a dedicated community for this kind of service (yet) on the Fediverse, so I'm using this community here instead.

I am online at least once a day, so I'll usually answer quickly.

The offer:

5€ for 12 months of the REGULAR Nintendo Online Subscription (does not contain the Expansion Pass / N64 emulator). The subscription will end in Dec 2024

You can check what is and is not included in that subscription on the official Nintendo site: https://www.nintendo.com/us/switch/online/

I can only accept paypal at the moment, so you would need a paypal account in addition to your Nintendo account. If you are contemplating to buy a subscription for something temporary, like a one-time trade in Pokémon Sword/Shield or to download one of the "exclusive" user icons while they're availiable, then keep in mind that Nintendo offers a free-of-charge 7 day trial for this service so you wouldn't have to buy anything ;)

How it works:

  • You contact me if you're interested. Comments, PMs, anything is fine, but keep in mind that PMs currently don't work properly across different instances. I am on Lemmy.World and can recieve and send PMs from other Lemmy.World users without issues, but if you are, for example, subscribed to Lemmy.ml then I won't recieve messages sent from your instances even tho you won't get an error message that it didn't work.

  • I'll tell you my paypal username, you send 5€

  • You'll tell me the email adress associated with your Nintendo account, and I send an invite to the family group. Please do this via PM or in the "notes" section of the paypal transaction to keep your data private.

  • You accept the invite. Congrats, you now have 12 months of NOS

Currently availiable: 7 slots

YSK about Sketch Toy (sketchtoy.com)

(the link again in case the clickable title doesn't work on all instances: https://sketchtoy.com)

Have you ever tried to explain something over the internet that doesn't translate well into words (like a specific route on a map, the layout of a building etc.) and you also can't find a good picture on the internet showing what exactly you mean? Then just use that site to doodle a sketch. It is free of charge, doesn't require a registration/verification/whatever or extra software, and the sketches seem to stay online forever.

I have an online roleplaying group that relies solely on chat / texts and this site has helped me numerous times to demonstrate the layout of a tavern, camp or dungeon, to show what in-game items look like and/or how big they are, and to add easy-to-understand visuals to in-game puzzles that would otherwise be hard to describe verbally.

Since it is an optional one ("just" guarding a Stray Bead) you can ignore him and still enjoy the entire story without missing out on anything, but the little completionist in me just HAS to beat him every time.

In the Switch version you can record and replay the clip, then solve the "puzzle" ingame as long as you don't let go of the brush button for the entire time (otherwise it's an automatic fail). The PSII version does not offer this workaround, and after a couple dozen tries I got so impatient that I grabbed an erasable marker and drew the lines between the dots on the TV screen. Still took me three more tries to actually beat him.

I don't doubt that there are some people who didn't have any problems with Blockhead at all, but I'm curious about possible other workarounds. So, how did you do it?

Especially for image searches. I am sick and tired of seeing that ""art"" in every single search, and the only real alternative is to exclusively browse trustworthy sites. I've tried to check for extensions myself but all I can find are extensions that use AI to do something, none that block it in any way.

Does anyone have a recommendation?
