I am a phone scroller and social media reader and a YouTube watcher. My phone and by extension my Google account are my mobile office. I regret having to buy an Apple Mac Mini but I am not giving up Logic as my DAW. I got away from overpriced Samsung devices a few years ago and have a fairly bloat-free Motorola. Now I want to dump the Google ecosystem. I intend to download all of my pics and files from Drive and the Google cloud. I am not so tech savvy that I can install APKs or switch to Linux, and I'd like to watch video streamers that aren't saturated in developer links (seriously, why do y'all do this?...just put one simple link to "Developer Info" or something and put all the other links there). I want to use and enjoy the net like any idiot would but without being The Product. I am Lemmy over Reddit (though you both ban me from subs with equal ferver); MeWe over Facebook (though MeWe is moving towards an unprivate model now); Mastodon over Xittstain. I have a ProtonMail account, but mainly for registrations...I have had a Gmail account since Earthlink took a nosedive.
What/who else is out there for me to frequent and replace all the corporatist models?in the past I tried Minds (all Nazis all the time!) and Ello (socmed for creative types, yet still looks like a shitty 1970's mimeographed zine). I also spent a couple of years at one called MyBetzCo that started out okay but died because none of the members would make public posts for interacting with others.
What do you recommend for private/decentralizwd clouds, socmeds or media sites?
Democrats urge tech companies to contain abortion misinformation::House Democrats on Thursday called on Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk to push back on the “rapid spread of abortion misinformation and disinformation,” with the lawmakers saying people are being discouraged from receiving abortion services due to “bad medical advice.” The Democratic representatives on the House Oversight and Accountability Committee said the misinformation and disinformation…
The 1956 Hungarian revolution was the first major armed conflict that featured the AK rifle, and the first conflict in which it was used by both sides. The photo above shows an anti-Soviet Hungarian revolutionary named József Tibor Fejes with a captured AK.
The Hungarian Revolution of 1956 was an attempted countrywide revolution against the government of the Hungarian People's Republic and the policies caused by that government's subordination to the Soviet Union. The uprising lasted 12 days before being crushed by Soviet tanks and troops on November 4, 1956.
I believe, but can not confirm with any research that the rifle is a Type 3 AK specifically. Type 3s having been produced starting in 1955.
You've all had some very interesting answers for my last post so here is a question for you, how do you think about copyright in general and should it exist?
I have been using PopOS for a while now (came installed with my S76 Lemp10), but now looking for a new distro (I want to try Linux Mint). I am looking for the easiest way to set up the new distro with most of my current applications installed.
My current plan on how to move my applications and settings:
- Get dotfiles to external repo (I am using stow)
- Use ansible-playbook to set up installation of all the apps I need
- Try the ansible setup on a docker container to ensure it works
- Then try the ansible setup on a PopOS VM to ensure things work
- Modify the ansible setup to use Linux Mint package manager (synaptic I believe)
- Then try the ansible setup on a Linux Mint VM
- Once everything works, copy the data, install new distro and run ansible script on the new OS
Is above the correct way to go about this, or is there anything better or easier available?
I've been tried reading about how degrowth can safe the planet - personally I don't buy stuff I don't need, uses public transport extensively, etc. it happens to me naturally - But I don't see how people and countries can apply degrowth without fear that others in our capitalist world would take advantage.
For example. let's say the suddenly the UK decided to degeowth and stop making so much investments into the industrial sector. The international investments would simply go to countries that would accept the investments. It feels like degrowth is stuck in a prisoner's dilemma. And there's no obvious way around it.
How can this be solved?
