I was talking more about dyndns in my router but i think you mean something different. Could you explain what dns records are please?
I have no real prior self hosting experience just some starter projects for raspi, but now I'm a bit more determined as i saw how many people are ready to help me from this thread
Do you own a domain, or are you planning to use a free domain from e g. dyndns for your instance?
You should know that Lemmy does not currently support changing domain name, so any domain name you choose now is pretty much permanent. You'll have to start a new instance again from scratch and give up your past data if you change your mind and want to use another domain in the future.
I am currently looking for a fitting domain but I'm planning to actually get one as they are only 0,60€ for a .de for a year. I have an account at feddit.de as you may have seen so my data isn't really at the lemmy instance I'm making until I'm sure it works properly
btw what do you think about lemmy-easy-deploy, someone else suggested that
lemmy-easy-deploy is solid and very straightforward to use. The generated docker compose file is easy to understand and not much different than the one from the official lemmy repo, which means you can tinker with later (if you decided to learn more about docker compose). I think the author is pretty active in this community too.
Very nice i will try to use that first and maybe do the more complex version after i made myself a bit more familiar
