Did you not notice gas prices tanking during the pandemic when we weren't consuming nearly so much? Think the oil companies will just keep extracting if we quit buying?
Ah yes, and how do you exactly keep on not buying it if there are no alternatives? Many people don't have any alternatives or the ones they have are much more inconvenient than going by car.
If this is supposed to be a supply and demand thing, first give us a decent supply of alternatives and you'll see the trends of demand shifting.
