I'm just saying the study is a bit flawed in that before we zapped channels but it didn't take that long to go through the list and then you either picked something or didn't watch. Going through all streaming services and the content they have takes far longer. It's a bit like saying people spend far more time in their car after moving to the suburbs. Sure they can work remotely or in the suburbs but they can also work in the city, which is far likely than the reverse of city people working in the suburbs. Not a very good analogy, could probably come up with a better one, but I'm simply saying it's a lot easier to waste time browsing now.

To continue on the zapping comparison the algorithm in that situation would put the channels you normally watch first. It wouldn't stop you from zapping through all of them but in many cases it would reduce the number of channels you zap through. Same thing here, if you're looking for something matching your regular pattern the algorithm reduces the time to pick, but if you want something different it doesn't help and we're back to a problem of how to make a catalog of 1000 movies "perusable" with a remote.

Don't really agree. The video rental store forced you to make a decision because you spent time to go there and the social pressure of actually chosing something instead of awkwardly shuffling away huffing something about forgetting to buy milk. For streaming there is no such pressure or urgency. You'd have something to watch every time if the app forced you to make a decision via say a time limit before it refuses to open and/or some rewards for consistently making fast decisions on what to watch.

I do think the descriptions are very poor, but movie box art and synopsis have always been pretty shit, it's just more shit now.

Regarding your algorithm rant it obviously doesn't fit you but on the whole it helps guide people towards choices they'd enjoy. People tend to lock up when overwhelmed with choices so they try to narrow it down. You on the other hand would prefer to slowly peruse a giant genre based category, but that isn't the norm. However I do agree that they should provide the option, because we're all different and it's good to cater to all types.

And I agree, I have multiple TB both ways but if he gives away invites to whomever don't expect them to have seedboxes / a good torrent VPN etc without asking. It's hard if you're the person who only downloads the movies they want to watch and haven't ever thought about seeding more than leaving the torrent on for a few days. That "works" on RARBG style sites but of course doesn't work on a tracker like TL which bans permanently and do not give a fuck about your reasons.

And I'm saying that's a big if.

Sure if you use a seedbox or have a port forward VPN and a good connection. If you have a free VPN without port forward or just a slow connection then you won't be able to seed much due to everyone finishing their downloads super fast. Then building ratio can be really hard. Either way if you go in there just downloading the movies / games etc you want and leave them on to seed you won't, generally reach even 0.8 ratio. You need a strategy be that build ratio for days / weeks using the freeleech stuff or set up rss download of torrents for popular shows such that you get in on the seeding action early etc.

Edit: I've been a member for 14 years, I've seen countless people fail to maintain a good ratio despite trying.

Yeah just be careful, Torrentleech has been know to ban the guy inviting people who fail to follow the rules. So maybe do a rule pop quiz or something? Or ask how they plan to build ratio since that isn't exactly super easy on TL.

Looks like the first time we'll get to actually walk around in something that captures the grandness of the WH40K setting. Can't wait! And do yourself a favor and revisit some gameplay videos of the first game, the evolution video games have gone through the last decade can't be overstated.

Valid, plastics in general is our generations lead or cigarettes or Freon (CFC). It's doing all sorts of harm everywhere. From messing with fish hormones and reproduction to microplastics permeating our bodies to outright causing a whole slew of medical conditions.

You need to see some serious value in the server use for that to be "efficient" but I say this as someone that turned of the heat a few winters ago and mined crypto.

BPA has been considered unsafe for a long time now. Very few baby products DON'T have the label "BPA Free". So this is just confirming what we've suspected for a long time now.

Sure, but what happened in Christiania was more direct democracy than anarchism. The problem with democracy is that engagement goes down the drain when you reach "good enough" and then you get situations like the ones arising all around the west. Corruption, incompetence and the hateful minority getting an outsized mandate due to the apathy of the masses.

Yeah, and the absolute worst thing is they'll be swarmed with applicants. A job and guaranteed housing I can afford? Guaranteed to be able to afford food and lunch etc? Deals on partnered electronics? I'm even willing to bet they'll allow remote work when you live there. To the average person it looks like a great deal. It makes life simple.

But when you want to switch jobs to boost your salary you're faced with having to move and finding a new place to live in the bay area isn't easy. Then the issue of leaving the town meaning leaving friends, changing schools if you have kids and everything that entails. Not to mention if your partner also works there. There will be a lot of people effectively stuck. That feeling of not having a choice, of being stuck is really insidious.

And with depressed wages, which won't impact them much while they work since they get housing and stuff cheaper. But come retirement the life time of lower earnings will rear its ugly head.
