A million times this. Mag-lev only works for either super dense routes where the added cost as you describe can be displaced by the immense value add of shorter and generally more comfortable travel. Or in nations that can force through decisions from the top down, such that cost becomes almost a non-factor like China. Rail in general across the western world is a weird mix of nationalized and privately owned companies and operators, such that introducing mag-lev with the intent to replace conventional rail would require compensation to the private companies who have invested billions in the current infrastructure else they simply won't be part of the new one, with all the issues that entail.

From an environmental standpoint it's also really hard to see an ROI in scrapping something that works in favor of mining, constructing and spending intense amounts of energy in all forms to build something better but only moderately so. The biggest improvement is moving from trucks to (electric) train for freight, going from electric train to mag-lev is only slightly better so the ROI just won't be there.

Alibaba has, unsure if you could find them through a more local store. Though I've never come across completely uncut lab diamonds, generally you can find rejects or poorly cut small ones pretty cheap.

EDIT: did a quick search on Alibaba and there are uncut lab diamonds as well even cheaper.

Wouldn't a potato setting also look like absolute ass? I mean few games are very pretty at 1080p Low which OP thinks isnt going low enough to accommodate old hardware. In those situations FSR can be used to make it run at 60 FPS with 1080p output but yes it will for sure not be a pretty experience, but it will run and won't destroy gameplay mechanics.

Now I do believe that the absolute best would be if developers got better at building their games and graphics engines to be resource efficient or "optimized" as the gaming community likes to call it. But that's quite an ask in reality as most studios don't build their own engine and those that do generally aren't building them with resource efficiency in mind, they're focused on what kind of games they want to build with them. Id Software really stands out but they're engine making wizards almost more so than game developers and really pride themselves with making good looking games that can be run well by just about anything. Doom Eternal runs and looks ridiculously well on the Steam Deck (in regards to what little juice that machine has) as an example.

I'm being awfully apologetic of developers here, but I really don't think the issue is that you can't run the games on older hardware, because FSR has mostly solved that imo.

Well a couple of issues. One is size and complexity, pretty low issue since games are already massive and where size is an issue (console physical media) they don't need to be included.

A bigger one is what does it say about the product? People are already using low settings disingenuously to say X game is ugly and not up to par, a potato setting would just exacerbate this and from an art standpoint do the developer really want to stand behind such a gimped product?

Then we have the problem of lowering details not really being able to solve the problem. A long draw distance can make it still really rough on older components due to memory constraints or ability to juggle X amount of objects. Sure a draw distance slider isn't uncommon but if the game uses said distance like say enemies spotting you from far away you can't lower draw distance such that it impacts game play. Physics and other demanding aspects might also make lowering settings hard or make for a big gameplay impact.

And finally why isn't FSR acceptable to make the game playable? It seems the perfect solution.

While its not all of Human knowledge it's a very important part of it, our history.

Ultimately if the goal is for it to survive societal collapse to the point where knowledge gets lost then books are a better bet than any digital storage. As such most large libraries hold the knowledge needed to take us up to the industrial revolution at least. Semiconductors is hard to teach in only text, by that point you really need the ability to produce the machines needed etc. But the underlying theory will be in a library. Also a lot gets proprietary and trade secrets when we get within the last 30 years and that knowledge won't ever get written down in a central repository until it's aged out of being protected.

Very true, and even if they could replace/remove libraries and dependencies that muck up the build process there are no guarantees that it'll play the same. So many games rely on strange quirks to function the way they do that would be nigh impossible to replicate purposely.

Reading the supporting data behind the video all he's refuting is that it was a conscious genocide. But I don't think most think of the period as genocide, more as a failure of the economic system. Of planned economy. Much in the same way as the famine under Mao Zedong in China.

I really can't understand the fascination with Soviet and early communist China. I have very little issue with socialism and Marx & Engels had a lot of interesting ideas but to go from there to idolizing Soviet and China is to me baffling. Cuba I can sort of understand at least.

300 different pokemon shiny or 300 shinies including dupes? While getting a shiny during an event is easy actually being committed and grind out every shiny event is crazy dedication. I can't bother with the game because the core gameplay loop is just so incredibly boring, and as you say is nothing like Pokemon should be. I'm slowly transferring everything to Pokemon Home and in that regard it has been pretty nice in terms of getting legendaries and mythicals that are really tough in the main series games to get. I've never catched the original 151 before and when I combine Let's Go Pikachu with Pokemon Go into Pokemon Home I'll actually tick that childhood goal off, which feels nice.

I love the implication here, that they don't have the proper source (or skills left in the company) such that they can remove the DRM which doesn't play nice themselves so they rely on a cracked copy of the game instead. Been quite a bit of news lately about how game companies have failed to keep the original source code for their games. Diablo 2, the Transformers games etc and those from active companies, there's bound to be 1000s of games where the source is lost due to publishers closing down studios.
