Follow in the footsteps of Gil Cisneros...

"...is an American government official, philanthropist, and politician who served as Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness in the Biden administration. He served as the U.S. representative for California's 39th congressional district from 2019 to 2021

"In 2010, he and his wife won a $266 million Mega Millions lottery jackpot and became philanthropists, establishing endowments for scholarships to be given to Latino students at GWU and the University of Southern California. They also founded Generation First Degree Pico Rivera, with the goal of ensuring every Latino household in Pico Rivera has at least one college graduate, and the Gilbert and Jacki Cisneros Foundation with an initial investment of $20 million to provide mentorship in education."

Yeah, why go through the trouble of installing a puppet government when we can offer "assistance" with a military base? How many hundred bases are there around the world now? And have any been decommissioned ever?

"The Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust—the name refers to a Dodge logo— combines various chambers underneath the Charger's body with some woofers and mid-range speakers, all driven by a dedicated 600 W amplifier. The system is also designed to transmit vibrations into the chassis through elastomeric bushings, mimicking an internal combustion engine and its motor mounts."

“An AP analysis of vote tally sheets released Friday by Venezuela’s main opposition indicates that their candidate won significantly more votes in Sunday’s election than the government has claimed, casting serious doubt on the official declaration that President Nicolás Maduro won.”

“According to the calculations, the opposition’s Edmundo González received 6.89 million votes, nearly half a million more than the government says Maduro won with. The tabulations also show Maduro received 3.13 million votes from the tally sheets released.

By comparison, updated results from the governmental National Electoral Council made public Friday said that based on 96.87% of tally sheets, Maduro had 6.4 million votes and Gonzalez 5.3 million. National Electoral Council President Elvis Amoroso attributed the delay in updating results to “massive attacks” on the “technological infrastructure.”

In a spirit of adventure I tried tofu skins the other day. Searching through the numerous options at our large Asian market, it looked like we found one that didn't have the California lead advisory statement on the package - but later found one buried in the fine print.

We ate them anyway, and really like them, but wonder why they have lead. Internet searches so far haven't yielded any answers.

Does anyone here know why they contain lead?

PS / TIL: tofu skins apparently are not be confused with tofu curls.

So each clothes dryer appliance has an exit port. You connect a hose to it to vent the damp air to the outside.

I want all dryers to have an intake port so that I can use cold air from the outside for drying. This will keep me from using (expensive) warm air from the inside of my house.

I suspect this will also make the dryer more efficient because the cold incoming air could contain less humidity.

By switching to reader mode (on Firefox if that matters) from a sites that asks to accept/reject cookies , what happens? The browser doesn't accept by default, right? Documentation I've found on this so far is kinda sparse.

In this interactive live webinar, Orly Lobel, a renowned tech policy scholar, will demonstrate the power of technology as a tool to harness to achieve equality and a better future.

Lobel masterfully shows that digital technology frequently has a comparative advantage over humans in detecting discrimination, correcting historical exclusions, subverting long-standing stereotypes, and addressing the world’s thorniest problems: climate, poverty, injustice, literacy, accessibility, speech, health, and safety.

Lobel’s vivid examples—from labor markets to dating markets—provide powerful evidence for how we can harness technology for good.

Can’t attend live? Register anyway, we will send you the recording after the webinar concludes!

Sorry if this has been asked before, but every time I try to create a post it seems like Lemmy will accept one or the other, not both. Yet other posts do this. What's the process to include an image when I post a link?
