I just finished this, yes it took me a month.

I found his literary style, very compelling, it was a fun read.

I found his predictions while interesting, not very clairvoyant. BeOS is sadly no longer with us.

I did like his tie-in to the Church of the simulation at the end, though this predates the official organization of such an church.

I think it was a thought-provoking essay, I disagreed with some aspects of this predictions, especially around what a monopoly is. It's thought-provoking. It's a good read. It is not gospel

He did talk about hacker culture, and anybody being able to fix anything, but was not able to make the connection between BeOS and proprietary license and Linux with an open license. The death of BOS followed one year from the creation of this essay

0%.

If I don't recognize your number I'm not answering the phone. Unless, I specifically am waiting for a call, like from an archaic doctor's office, or to get a verification of something. That is the only circumstance I will answer a unknown number from.

Even then, I use a voice answering service, that asks the person to identify themselves, and then I am told who is calling. So if that's not filled in I still don't answer.

Then, if they get to voicemail, and they don't leave a voicemail message, they're obviously spam... And I'm vindicated by not answering the phone

90% - If I recognize your phone number, I will answer the call if I'm not in a meeting. If you call multiple times in a row, I will leave the meeting to answer your call. But it better be an emergency or we're going to have some feedback to go over...

Also, the people who call multiple times instead of texting and then calling, really really really really really need to stop doing that. If it's an emergency call, text, call again. Because of the call I'm going to pay attention to what the text message says. So I can see oh it's a f****** emergency. If you're the kind of person who leaves a voicemail message, or text message, that just says call me back as soon as you can. F*** you. Learn how to communicate

Yes.

Calling GenZ tech savvy for always using a cell phone is like calling grandma a mathematician because she spends all day at the slot machine.

I find the downvotes here delicious, this video is from a VERY thoughtful creator who is thanking people for taking some of their precious seconds on this planet to interact with each other. Positive or negative he appreciates everyone.

It's the most positive, chill, good vibes video I've ever seen.

I have a, honest to goodness breaks the electron flow, power switch for a reason, the shutdown command was a warning not a request.

Setting up a Synology server, I made the mistake of just buying a UPS that had a USB plug on the back thinking oh this is a solved problem, it must just work. No no far from it.

So the UPS I mistakenly purchased is not compatible with Synology. SRV1KI-E wants to run this weird program called PowerChute.

Anyone have success marrying this into the Synology ecosystem?

It also has a RS 232 serial port, I wonder if there's an off-the-shelf device that would speak serial but output power state via the network or USB.

New Vegas Reloaded is officially available for download via Discord.

There are many other versions floating around the interwebs but it's HIGHLY recommended you use the latest nightly build, downloaded from the TES Reloaded Discord.

I'll point out, this site is hosted on GitHub, which distributes builds, and has build infrastructure....

Why are builds going through discord???!?! Insane

From open bench table : https://openbenchtable.com/

To just sitting on top of a anti static mat...

There are options for how to manage a test computer.

Do you have a preferred case that is portable, stackable, and still easy to work on?

I've thought about Fractal cases but they are on the bulky side of things. I've thought about a 4U case Silverstone rm44, but then the components are hard to access.. and noise goes up

45 minutes: An excellent presentation by Ben bickman. He goes over different life cycles of fat, different biological fat growth scenarios. He discusses how fat cells grow and shrink in different hormonal environments.

Not only is the data fascinating, he's an excellent presenter, being engaging and funny throughout

Near the end of the presentation he covers a N of one case study, where somebody gained weight, under different hormonal regimes. Really fascinating data

On stock aosp, and pixel android, I can auto rotate the phone up, left, or right, but if I turn the phone upside down the screen won't rotate.

Is there a way to enable upside down rotation? I think it would be quite useful.

I.e. When phone is charging, or hanging phone up by a strap, or when using a usb-c device and you want to prop it up on a desk

Is a lighter effective because it's on fire? Or just because it's hot?

If you made a lighter that was just as hot as another lighter, would it work just as well even if it had no fire?

I often find myself accidentally following the link of a post when I want to open the post and see the comments, rather than opening the post itself. That's because on my Voyager feed the post image is 95% of the post, and the title is a bit smaller.

Some people may prefer not to engage with the comments, but I would like an optional toggle to make any engagement with the post and the feed open the post itself.

For images, when touching the image makes the image bigger. This is no big deal. I just open the post. But when it opens an external web browser, the friction of going backwards is annoying.

When scrolling on the main feed, if a post is bigger than the screen height, if you scroll up to view the top of the post sometimes Voyager will reload the entire feed, resulting in a blank screen and 10 to 20 seconds of reload.

Compared to many of the other militaries we’ve looked at, Iran’s force structure and overarching strategy stands out.

From its arsenal of Shah era weapons to its new generation of missiles, in this episode we did a bit deeper into Iran’s military capabilities, limitations, and the industrial capabilities behind them.
