Get a no-annual fee credit card from a major bank or credit union. Keep it open, only use it once a month to keep it open, never close it, and it will help your credit rating long term.

Do a frequency scan, choose a 5ghz band, narrowest band you can, that isn't being used, (don't use 2.4ghz, 5ghz attenuates the fastest). If your router supports DFS, use a DFS channel

[-] jet@hackertalks.com 4 points 10 hours ago

ok.... so our friendly OP can use their router without turning on the radios and everyone is happy? let's advise that then

[-] jet@hackertalks.com 3 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago)

Happily the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands are unlicensed and open for public use.

Nothing our OP said indicated they wanted to run WiFi, but even if they did, they could choose a less noisy channel.

Nothing in the click through agreement talked about radios, or bands.

Any body could turn their phone into a cellular hotspot, or have a starlink hotspot, and that is nobody elses business. This is no different.

Letting the network dictate what you can run in your own home is MaBell levels of authoritarianism, but more to the point, its unenforceable ( You can always take a page out of how to hotspot book - Router runs a always on vpn and the lan side only goes out over the VPN, so DPI just seeds the router, and the TTL is as expected)

I'm with you, but how is using your own router messing that up?

On the WAN side, its just a dhcp client, just like any other laptop/xbox etc

It's not reasonable for a ISP to dictate what CPE can be used on the network, as long as the CPE does not break the network, and routers are fairly well behaved clients by design.

Just from a data hygiene and security perspective, you don't want to put your own computer directly into a bigger network, safter to be behind your own router.

Ignorance is strength.

Pretend you never saw it, plug your router in, and don't worry about it.

If they do ask questions, you just made a innocent assumption.

I don't think anybody actually hated the game, it just was very mid, and for the space it was competing in it wasn't compelling. But it wasn't obviously bad

So if you're a consultant looking at one aspect of the game, it's hard to make the prediction the entire market would reject it.

It's really down to the game directors, and the leadership, and the executives. They didn't have a product that was sufficiently unique to make a name for itself, and they should have known that

The issue isn't the software has limited support, the issue is the software doesn't get open sourced when support ends.

[-] jet@hackertalks.com 36 points 21 hours ago

if it isn't meant for me, that's totally fine.

That also means it's not my fault when the thing that isn't meant for me doesn't get a audience, right? Right?

Downvotes are open, but yeah, not currently exposed to every client, but its possible :) Maybe a server can show a sentiment score for a user, i do know one lemmy fork actually does that already, but I forgot which one.

Opening up your request for advice with an attack on people isn't helpful, it makes lemmy a more combative place, and will diminish the totality of advice you get.

Since your still learning typing, you have a great opportunity to program yourself with chorded keying rather then the standard touch typing. I highly recommend it, its quite the force mutiplier.

As far as learning key layout, go full immersion, print out the key layout on paper, replace your keycaps with blanks (keep the home row bumps). It will suck for a week, but your more likely to learn the layout by touch this way. Keep playing your typing training games!

If you want to go full crazy, braille keycaps are fun

Yeah, I would love to see a user score on names (in addition to account age we have now):

How combative they are (i.e. referring to people as nazi's, hitler, philes, ists, etc)

How likely they are to downvote a post vs upvote

How positive they can be (i.e. saying nice things)

Concord is very polished. But it still seems fairly contained, a bunch of heroes, a handful of maps. Where did the 8 years go?

Firewalk studios has 169 employees as far as i can tell.

They use unreal engine, no single player campaign

Where did the time go?

The game got a lot of hate online, but I've generally found when a game is hated on, there's usually something more. So I decided to actually play the game. I'm 5 hours in

Honestly I like it, for telltale like walking simulator, it sets up the story pretty well, it has some nice sci-fi beats. It's good for what it is. It isn't anything it promises not to be. I think it's a good game, I'd recommend waiting until it goes on sale for $10 maybe. At that price point it's about the cost of a movie and That's where I put it in terms of value pricing.

or the discussion of new community posts https://sopuli.xyz/post/15865680

Some communities, like fark, let you annotate users that you interact with so that when you interact with them in the future have an idea about the previous context with them.

I think that would be a good feature for lemmy, able to add a note/nick name that displays any time you see a comment or post by that user

16

If you find yourself having to block a user, there should be an option to block all the communities they can moderate as well.

Not a big issue, just a quality of life item
