No problem. When I decided to look for myself, it seems this question has come up on their forum, and the dev gets really salty over it 😂

Looks like good software, though. 👍

It doesn't look to be open source, or is it?

Believe me, Google does enough a/b testing, and has enough experience in psychological manipulation to know where "the line" is for most people.

Sure, some will never use their product(s) again when pushed too far, but they don't really need everyone to be using their products.

Only the users they can profit from the most are of value. If a terrible UI, awful UX, or even a paid subscription doesn't scare them away from using a Google Product, then each of those users becomes a cash cow.

Those are mostly operating costs, offset by revenue, but are they actually losing 1.5 billion dollars a year? I mean, I hope so, but are they really?

Source? Where is that money going?

When did it get this bad?

Bad? Google just proved that they can get you to stay on their search page (or come back to get a different answer) for way longer than you need... this is a WIN for them.

The enshittification of the internet + the greed inherent in these mega corps have caused websites to be designed to ~~grab~~ steal your attention for as long as possible. The longer they can keep you on their site, the more money/data/attention/time they can get out of you.

If search was designed to benefit the user, a typical visit would result in maybe 5-10 seconds of someone's time to enter a search and click on the relevant result. You proved that when you compared it to DDG 😀

You'd need to explore the topic in further detail, as I'm sure the answer is there.

It may be dose dependent, but it may also be that a "splash" of milk might not impair absorption by much, but would anyone use just a splash of milk?

[-] Showroom7561@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 weeks ago

It's one study of many showing this effect. I believe they suggest that the protein in milk is the culprit. The same effect applies to tea... Adding dairy to tea reduces its health benefits.

Tech companies only care about making money. If people continue to buy their half-effort products, then they'll keep making it.

On the other hand, open-source (hardware or software) is designed for maximum longevity.

Unfortunately, the wrong people have unlimited resources when it comes to making our tech products.

Considering that coffee is probably the highest source of antioxidants in a person's diet, there will be some health benefits. Just dont add dairy milk to it, or it will blunt absorption. Soy milk is fine.

But if you're an overweight, overworked, stress filled couch potato who doesn't exercise and eats poorly, then you're health is screwed regardless of how much coffee you drink 😂

If there's a life-or-death situation that I absolutely cannot miss, I'll set two alarms 15 minutes apart.

But in all honestly, you should be able to wake up fresh without even having an alarm. It requires that you practice good sleep habits, including a consistent sleep schedule.

I've only been forced to watch YouTube with ads a few times this past year... Alcohol and gambling ads were very, very common. It's unethical to show them, and I don't feel bad about blocking them.

The literal paperwork involved with not getting paperwork is a little much these days!

Any time saved by ordering online and picking up the order has vanished chasing customer support people to fix something that would have taken a few seconds through their website.

Went to order some cat treats and saw that I could get a 25% discount when I sign up for Amazon's subscribe feature.

So I clicked on it and the total in my cart didn't reflect a 25% discount.

When I went back to see what was up, I noticed that the discount went down to 5%.

Unclicking the box will show a 25% discount again...

UPDATE: A commenter mentioned that the text reads "up to 25%", so I went to a different item, added it to my cart and got:

But clicking on that checkbox also brings it back down to 5%.

Is this new, or have online accounts never offered the ability to update your email address easily?

I just hope the house numbers aren't similar!

Walmart (Canada) has started offering subscriptions for "free" shipping for under $10 a month. The cost of gas to go there a few times a month would be more than the subscription fee.

Since I normally bike to get groceries, this isn't really a factor, but the idea of getting groceries shipped over the winter seems like a nice idea.

Does anyone here use these grocery store shipping subscriptions? Is it worth strategically getting it for a few months out of the year?

This boy was wonderful. He gave me around 20 minutes of posing, flight, and calls 🥰🥰🥰

Even though prices have shot up for things like almond, soy, and oat milk, the size of refrigerated versions have always been 1.89L.

But I noticed some strangeness on the Walmart (Canada) website while building my grocery list where one brand, that is priced less than another brand, had a higher cost per 100ml.

As I looked into it, I noticed that several varieties have gone from 1.89L to 1.75L.

I'm getting real sick and tired of this.

Over a month ago, I took my data out of Reddit before running "Shreddit" to OVERWRITE my comments with gibberish before deleting them.

Today, I was able to get a second copy of my data request and confirmed that all of my comments are still gibberish on Reddit's end, and DELETED when anyone else tries to view them.

I think overwriting old comments and posts is critical before deletion, because Reddit will still retain those comments in their entirety, even if they are "deleted" for other users.
