I already spent hundreds of dollars on my analog goggles, and a bunch more on analog VTX's, so I'm just going to stick with analog for a while. Especially since prices are way higher than when I got into the hobby several years ago.

Musk himself said there are way more bots than he thought when he was trying to weasel out of buying the site. That was before AI that could solve recaptchas, and respond like a human. Imagine how many bots there are now.

What does he care if a bunch of people that he thinks are losers hate him? He's sitting on his private yacht, anchored just off his private country club, and eating lobster in the hot tub. He's a major world player now. He doesn't give a fuck what reddit users think of him.

[-] Anticorp@lemmy.world 5 points 17 hours ago

What do you think he would learn? He got like $190 million dollars in compensation last year, broke the protest, and only lost a small fraction of users. He doesn't view the site with the same love that we did. It's just a business to him, and he's just a soulless executive.

[-] Anticorp@lemmy.world 4 points 17 hours ago

Spez and his executives do resent the users. He's on record making statements which make it clear that he sees the user's resistance to monetization as a roadblock between him and his money. The fact that people built all of the content on the entire site for free, doesn't matter to him. He actively hates them for not behaving in a way that gets him more money.

And AI. AI is a wet dream to a company like Reddit, Facebook, or Twitter. They can keep the appearance of an active and popular site indefinitely, stealing money from advertisers years before they catch on.

Very well said, and it was the trust violation which finally pushed me off of Facebook and Reddit. Reddit as we know it is dead, it's obvious to anyone who used to use it. But AI is here, and it's going to continue pumping semi-believable posts and replies for years, making it look as if the site is still booming. But the posts are valid, devoid of soul, and almost always written with an ulterior motive to sell something or some idea. The Dead Internet is here.

I really wish I would have shelled out a little extra for the Fatshark goggles with the removable receiver back when I bought mine. I'm pretty sure you can swap it out with a digital receiver, but I didn't do that, so I'll have to buy a whole new headset to go digital.

Except none of the comments are as you describe.

I thought you were going to make some Lemmy typical off-topic political point at first, but you had me chuckling at the end.

Idk what to tell you. You're arguing that a marathon isn't a test of endurance, and the speed at which someone can complete it isn't an indication of their overall strength and endurance. Okay then. You win. Have a nice day.

I will acknowledge that things that seem impossible to me are probably easy for people who engage in those activities frequently. So, you're probably right.

We watched this last night and it's definitely the best movie we've seen all year, probably the last few years.

Viggo Mortensen was nominated for Best Actor for his performance in this movie and it's apparent why. He completely disappears into the role, with no remnant of Aragorn, or Captain Fantastic anywhere on screen. You forget who you are even watching.

Mahershala Ali did win an Academy Award for his performance, which is reserved, powerful, intriguing, and believable all at once. I've only seen Ali portray villains before, and I had forgotten about my previous conception of him within the first few scenes.

The chemistry between the two actors is remarkable, and they play off each other very well throughout the movie. We found the movie to have a perfect blend of seriousness, humor, heartbreak, and triumph. The script is great, the acting superb, the directing stellar, and the music is flat out amazing.

The movie doesn't pull punches with the overt racism of the South during that era. The pair - genius musician, and street smart bodyguard - encounter multiple dangerous situations. They save each other, both literally and figuratively, throughout the movie.

Overall I can't praise this movie enough. It is an outstanding accomplishment, and deserved every award that it won. Check it out!

Newpipe hasn't worked on my Android for several days now. Has YouTube blocked the app, or did an update break it?

I've been using Arch on an old laptop for a few years now, but I use Pop on my gaming desktop. I've wanted to switch to Arch for a long while now, but haven't had the motivation (if it ain't broke, and all that). I'm finally ready to do it, but I'm a little concerned about my gaming experience. Are there any gotchas for gaming with an i7 and a 3070 ti that I should be aware of before I make the switch? Is it pretty seamless? Can I still use a freesync monitor with the g-sync compatibility setting? Is it easy to install the Nvidia drivers and well documented on the wiki? I'm open to information about any other sticky scenarios you guys encountered getting Arch set up for use as a daily driver and gaming computer.

Edit: is there any way to backup my internal drive mappings and mounting points, or will I need to set all of that up again?

I've only ever used Gnome for Arch, but one of the things that has me motivated to switch is that KDE 6 supports HDR. Does anyone have experience with it? Is it a pretty slick and simple DE?

I've added some instances to the instance filters, yet I continue seeing those instances. Is there something else that I need to do to block entire instances?

I have block bots selected, and I have my language set, yet I frequently see both types of posts which violate those settings. Are there additional changes I can make to see fewer of each type of post?

I've been using Sync successfully for months now. Today I tried to post and it said I need to log in. I have tried a dozen times and it keeps throwing errors. I verified that I can log in on the mobile website. Logging in to lemmy.world through sync works fine. Any ideas?
