Hey! I wasn't too sure if this question belongs here or over in Technology but here we go.

My roommate and I want to stop cooking with the gas burners at our place for various reasons and so we were considering getting one of those portable induction stoves and using that to cook instead. We're renting the place so we don't have the option of completely replacing the stove.

I was wondering if someone has some experience with this and maybe a stove model to recommend, or is it a terrible idea and would not work for X reason? Thanks in advance!

I love my duxtop induction, but you should make sure all your pots and pans are compatible with induction, only my cast irons work with mine.

Second duxtop. We bought a single burner to use while we renovated our kitchen, kept using it for a while, and loaned it out a few times as well.

Do you remember which model you got? I'm gonna go down the rabbit hole of reading reviews and checking specs :P

I cooked with (non portable) induction stoves in various places, and I daily use one: all of them shared the same basic features and in the end, I couldn't see any difference between the models.

Just check the customer reviews for the reliability of the model you're interested in.

I don't know about the quality or how good they are, but IKEA has some portable induction stoves which seem like really good value.

I have a non-portable ikea stove which was very cheap and works just as expected.

I recently used an IKEA portable induction stove in an Airbnb, and did not like it at all. It was very powerful, but basically had only two settings: super high or off. You could adjust it, but that would just mean it cycled more often between super high and off

Our stovetop is having issues and I’d had a similar thought, so I’m hanging out to hear people’s reckons on this too!

America's Test Kitchen does very thorough reviews of lots of kitchen equipment, here's their review of induction cook tops.

TLDW: duxtop 1800W is good, there are better ones but they're a lot more expensive
