Ramallah, occupied West Bank – Israel has arrested so many Palestinians in the two weeks since the start of its bombardment of the besieged Gaza Strip that it has doubled the number of Palestinians in its custody.

There were about 5,200 Palestinians in Israeli prisons prior to October 7 when the Palestinian armed resistance group Hamas launched an attack on Israel, which responded almost immediately with a relentless bombing campaign.

Indefinite detention is always bad, in every circumstance, because there is definitionally no due process happening. This seems to be a practice Israel genuinely engages in. A horrific abuse of power that is never ok.

Not just about this situation either.

Headline is a little vague, it was over 5k before 10/7. And they've added another 5k that will be lucky if they even make it to kangaroo court.

That headline is dangerously misleading. In April, ~1,000 people was the largest number that had been kept without charges since 2003, NOT that the majority of those thousand people had been kept without charges since 2003. Still horrific, but less extreme
