Infinity for reddit just died. Are there any other reddit (free) apps that still work? Is it still possible to compile infinity for reddit by myself, bypassing subscriptions? I just really dont want to leave reddit (yet) but im not so into it to pay for it. Sadly, these are propably my last seconds with reddit. From deepness of my heart, fuck you spez.

Boost seems to be working for me. What i did was create community and made it private so i am considered a mod and it works. Even infinity is working for me. So maybe try that? I got the apk for boost from apkmirror i think

https://www.reddit.com/r/Infinity_For_Reddit/comments/14c2v5x/build_your_own_apk_with_your_personal_api_key_in/

You can build your own APK of Infinity with your own API key. You don't need to install any apps (other than infinity) and it can be done from your phone.

Screenshot in case the post on Reddit is removed:
1. Backup your current settings in the App [Settings Advanced -> Backup settings (or so)] 2. Open the Google Colab Script and run the snippets with the instructions (Please read it carefully, you don't need ANY coding experience as you don't touch the code) 3. Uninstall old App 4. Install the APK 5. Login and restore your settings (if needed) If you see the name "{YourRedditUsername}-app" (or whatever you chose) while logging in, you were successful 6. Restart the app for the settings to apply

Important: If the build fails or you can't login in the App because of an Oauth error, try doing the whole process again in another browser (yes, generating a new APl token)

Google Colab Script

Edit: Also, Geddit (Website) (F-Droid) (GitHub) works without the API, but you can't interact with anything, comments don't show properly, and I think the UI doesn't look very good.

I suggested some a while ago in my alternative frontends thread, but tl;dr: RedReader still works.

I'm officially done with reddit now that infinity is done. Good riddance. I will be overwriting my comments then deleting my account.

I really hope that Lemmy gets more traction with niche communities.

To answer your question : the official app still work for free. But, he, there is really no fun using it.

Stealth (from F-Droid) doesn't let you log in but you can browse and subscribe to subs without ads.

Narwhal still works for those on iOS.

There's an in-development app called Winston that is built around using your own API key. Check it out! (It does crash a lot, though, being in beta and all.)

I'm still using a custom build of infinity, and it still works for me. anything account based didn't work for me, probably did something wrong. there is also geddit on fdroid, also no account tho, but uses scraping/spoofs the official app so will probably work for some time.
