So that's it? What, they're some kind of Suicide Squad?

[-] Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world 21 points 3 weeks ago

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thunderbolts_(comics)

The Thunderbolts are a superhero team appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The team consists mostly of reformed supervillains. Created by Kurt Busiek, the team first appeared in The Incredible Hulk #449 (January 1997)

The biggest problem with these kind of movies is they have required homework. I don't think I watched half the shows these people came from. And I really don't want to. So there's no reason for me to see this film.

[-] CaptDust@sh.itjust.works 17 points 3 weeks ago

Marvel spent the first 20 mins of The Marvels recapping the character stories, I suspect they'll have to do the same here. They're making an effort to minimize homework, but it cuts into film time.

[-] grayhaze@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

I'm guessing they'll do it Suicide Squad style, with each being introduced to the others via exposition and / or flashbacks.

I think they'll probably do the same thing but In a hopefully funny and quick way (Like what they did in Ant Man)

[-] DoucheBagMcSwag@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Looks like it's mostly Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Ant man and the Wasp and Black Widow ,(the one nobody saw including myself)

I think having multiple from a box office bomb is going to be the biggest issue since nobody will recognize some of them

It doesnt "require" homework, that's a choice. If you like any of the characters go watch their previous projects. If you don't like any of the characters then you won't have to waste the time.

It's like saying i can't start reading comics because i have to start at the beginning.

Iike any other series, You can do it the hard way if that's how you choose to approach it but you can also just jump in and see if you want to go down any of the rabbit hole you know already exist

You will also be unburdened by any of those previous works and any opinions people around you have on them.

Its a choice you are making

As a few have said, only one person is from a TV series and the rest are from movies.

If a movie like this is done correctly, you don’t need to have watched what came beforehand to appreciate it. Most characters in movies have pasts, we don’t get to watch everyone’s lives from when they are born to when they die.

[-] EncryptKeeper@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

The three main characters in this poster are all from Marvel movies.

[-] IchNichtenLichten@lemmy.world 25 points 3 weeks ago

Oh look, Marvel is making its movie again.

Look, immortals sucked, The Marvels sucked, Secret invasion sucked... But that doesn't mean this wo---

You know what best to keep expectations low and be pleasantly surprised

[-] Microw@lemm.ee 12 points 3 weeks ago

The Marvels was fun. I get it if you're part of an audience that isn't interested in this type of movie, but for what it was it certainly didn't suck.

[-] ImminentOrbit@lemmy.world -2 points 3 weeks ago

No, the Marvels sucked. It's ok if you can appreciate a bad movie, but that doesn't make it good.

[-] fan0m@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago

A yeah? You watched it? Hot was it?

[-] scytale@lemm.ee 11 points 3 weeks ago

My expectations are low for this and I'm definitely not spending money to watch it in theaters. However, most if not all of these characters are pretty interesting and not necessarily bad in the films they were in. So it all boils down to the writing and execution.

[-] DoucheBagMcSwag@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 3 weeks ago

Could be a fun watch. Will wait for reviews first

[-] Thassodar@lemm.ee 2 points 3 weeks ago

I'd catch it on a $6 ticket night, and it comes with free popcorn.

[-] DoucheBagMcSwag@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

I recognize fake captain America / US Agent from the Winter Soldier miniseries and Bucky.

[-] grayhaze@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

There's also Yelena Belova from Black Widow and Hawkeye, Alexei Shostakov / Red Guardian and Antonia Dreykov / Taksmaster also from Black Widow, Ava Starr / Ghost from Ant-Man and the Wasp, and Bob.

[-] Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago

I wonder if this will actually be interesting. The writers and director behind this did Beef. Also, Marvel seems to be doing less stuff now. Their worst shows and movies all came about when Kevin Feige was trying to pay attention to 100 things at once.

[-] burgersc12@mander.xyz 1 points 3 weeks ago

BEEF? That show was OK but I doubt it helps with Marvel, they are very different types of media.

[-] Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

I’m open to it. Some of the best directors and writers for these movies came from doing comedy and drama.

This looks more like one of those ai movie posters than an actual poster. Also, “careful who you assemble” holy shit lol this is actually garbage

[-] andrew_s@piefed.social -1 points 3 weeks ago

Had no familiarity with this, so assumed Florence Pugh's character was male from this poster (not that any that matters, of course).
