Maybe try Carrion from F-Droid? And call the national do not call registry. Both of those ended my spam call epidemic.

[-] Moonrise2473@feddit.it 23 points 1 week ago

In our country the national do not call registry is fake.

We are so smart that we gave the management of it to a "non profit" foundation that charges legal call centers millions of euros. It's 10000x cheaper to ignore the law and call people illegally from abroad. If get caught (very hard as numbers are spoofed, not illegal to spoof a number) pay the slap on the wrist and continue operating illegally

That bites, I didn't trust the US one. But I had a corporate number to test it on and so far these seem to be working. Carrion might work in your country but I think it is maintained by a US university. It blocks unsigned calls. Dont really know what that means but the spam stopped.

[-] teft@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago

OP seems to be Chilean. Do they have do not call there?

[-] kintsugi@lemmy.cafe 10 points 1 week ago

we do. i thought i would be okay if i just didn't use the number anywhere so i didn't register. i was so wrong.

[-] fahfahfahfah@lemmy.billiam.net 1 points 1 week ago

They just use auto dialers and try every number, doesn’t matter if your number is actually out there or not

[-] kintsugi@lemmy.cafe 5 points 1 week ago

i didn't know about carrion. i don't know if it works in my country. i'll test and see. thank you.

[-] Sanctus@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Best of luck! I hope it works for you.

[-] cyberpunk007@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 week ago

Never heard of carrion, pixel phones have a built in method for this. Would I see a benefit over using the built in features on the pixel?

[-] Sanctus@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

No idea, honestly. You might not be able to use them at the same time. I had to set Carrion to my "Caller ID & Spam Filter" app in the default app settings.

[-] Sunny@slrpnk.net 20 points 1 week ago

You're likely to have been given a number which was previously used a fair amount. You could call your phone company and ask for a new number. At least that's how it works here.

[-] anarchyrabbit@lemmy.world 20 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

If I understand correctly you are just using the sim for data. Just forward the calls to a number that doesn't exist. That's what I did with my data sim. Worked well

[-] filcuk@lemmy.zip 16 points 1 week ago

Better yet - forward it to someone you hate

[-] Bezier@suppo.fi 4 points 1 week ago

Can it be forwarded to a paid number?

[-] jordanlund@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago

I mean, at least they're all from your country.

My company issued everyone iPhones for work and I keep getting calls from Mexico.

[-] Eiri@lemmy.ca 11 points 1 week ago

Holy shit, I thought people were exaggerating when they said spam calls had gotten out of hand. I didn't think it was that bad.

[-] TwoBeeSan@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

The older the address the more you'll get. Routinely see people witn att.net or even sbc global emails.

Inundated with spam is an understatement.

[-] Eiri@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 week ago

Oh spam email I absolutely get a lot of. But spam calls, thankfully, are a relatively rare occurrence.

[-] Matt@lemdro.id 7 points 1 week ago

Whoever had the number before you likely gave it out to any service that asked.

Since you only use it for data, I recommend contacting your provider and asking for a different number.

[-] MerchantsOfMisery@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 week ago

Phone calls used to be such a quick, convenient way to talk or get info and uselessly governments have paved the way for scam companies to completely ruin the modern day phone call.

[-] EpicMuch@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 week ago

I’ve had the same AT&T phone number for nearly 20 years. I still get random calls for the previous owner of this #

[-] HarriPotero@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Does your internets take a little break while these call?

I wonder if you can just call-forward to your ex.. 🤔

[-] Alice@hilariouschaos.com 3 points 1 week ago

On the jerboah app, I can see you scrolling I guess that's a new feature ?

[-] Magister@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago
[-] Alice@hilariouschaos.com 1 points 1 week ago

I know but the app has never done that before so it's cool

[-] Mwa@thelemmy.club 1 points 1 week ago

why are they all from Chile

[-] kintsugi@lemmy.cafe 1 points 1 week ago

i'm chilean. thankfully. would've been wild to be getting calls from a different country like that other comment said lol

I'm glad that I live in the EU. I don't even remember when I got my last spam call, that was many years ago.
