Ohhh yes! Look, I'm not an EV enthusiast but this car might change my mind. I love the way it looks from every angle. Just needs a trapper keeper background to complete the look.

Nice to see something other than an SUV for a change. I’ll wait and see what the range, charge speed, and costs are before getting too excited.

[-] dual_sport_dork@lemmy.world 17 points 2 weeks ago

The article also implies it will be hydrogen based, so I'm predicting the answers to your questions will be, in order: Not much, irrelevant, and a lot.

[-] grue@lemmy.world 13 points 2 weeks ago

I really hope they ditch the hydrogen part.

[-] Bbbbbbbbbbb@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

I get what you mean but Lucid, Hyundai, BMW, Tesla, Polestar, VW, and im sure a few more all have electric sedans

[-] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

If people considered those sorts of things when buying a sports car they wouldn't buy sports cars.

It looks cool. It probably goes like stink. Hopefully it handles well. That's all a sports car needs.

[-] psycho_driver@lemmy.world 35 points 2 weeks ago

Who knew that if an R34 and a Chrysler Conquest had a baby it'd grow up to be gorgeous?

[-] jqubed@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago

I think this would be both the best looking electric car and best looking Hyundai I’ve ever seen.

[-] Mr_Blott@feddit.uk 6 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I dunno about best looking Hyundai...

Oh no, I can't unsee that, what have you done?

[-] jaaake@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

What’re you talking about? That’s clearly an RX-7 and a Dodge Challenger.

[-] espentan@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Aaaaha, the Starion, now I see what you mean (they were all sold as Mitsubishi Starion in Europe, to my knowledge. Not an expert).

[-] psycho_driver@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Yep we had the Starion here in the States as well. It and the Conquest were pretty much the same vehicle.

[-] IndiBrony@lemmy.world 29 points 2 weeks ago

If it looks anything like all the pictures I've seen in the past, I'm buying.

[-] BallShapedMan@lemmy.world 27 points 2 weeks ago

Limited quantities makes me feel like it'll be a price I won't want to pay.

I'm hoping it doesn't feel like an EV to drive but a good sports car instead!

[-] ShepherdPie@midwest.social 13 points 2 weeks ago

Limited quantities makes me feel like it'll be a price I won't want to pay.

Maybe we can all go in on one together and take it alternating weekends.

[-] ryrybang@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

Just like how mammy and pappy raised me.

[-] BallShapedMan@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

I'm in 😂😭

[-] thefartographer@lemm.ee 6 points 2 weeks ago

I'm hoping it doesn't feel like an EV to drive but a good sports car instead!

What the fuck is that supposed to mean?? Why, the CyberTruck alone can tow a mustang 10 bajillion miles in less time than a mustang can wrap itself around a pole near a Cars and Coffee

[-] BallShapedMan@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I'm not a mustang fan, though the coyote V8 sounds amazing.

This is a Cybertruck getting owned by a 180hp mid 90s Corvette.

Straight line speed doesn't interest me much, plus with the crap breaks on it you can only do it so many times but that's neither here nor there. My wife owns an EV as do many of my friends and they're all like driving a couch. Comfortable, disconnected from the road, couches.

A real sports car you can feel the road, the tires weight up, your rear end communicates the stability through the turn. I have yet to drive a single EV that can do any of that. McLaren 650s I drove was the top of the pile for me, but my Corvette is pretty good too.

Put the Cybertruck isn't great as an EV or a truck. Rivian makes some pretty sick EVs, as does Porsche.

And as for the bajillion miles, the record for an EV in a 24 hour race was made this year at about 700 miles and they had to have three sets of batteries and swap them out while the other two charged. Miatas made it 1200 miles on average for comparison. So I question the distance claim.

Solid state batteries are supposed to help a ton and I'm excited for them but the current battery tech energy density and charge rate isn't great.

[-] thefartographer@lemm.ee 2 points 2 weeks ago

My sarcasm might not have translated well, but "couch" is correct. Even my '86 Crown Vic that drove like a boat felt more sporty than any EV I've been in.

That being said, I crave the R3X and imagine all of it's "sportiness" will be... underwhelming.

I've never driven anything more sporty than a mid-'90s Porsche Boxer or Hyundai Elantra N. But the most connected I've ever felt to the road was in an early 2000s Miata.

Anyway, uhhh... Something something fuck you CyberTruck

[-] BallShapedMan@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Damnit, I missed the sarcasm... Signs of my age.

And Miatas are no joke, they feel amazing as much as people make fun of them. Flying Miata out of Grand Junction used to sell you a new Miata engine swapped and upgraded suspension and all.

Now another company does it but a Miata with an LS just seems like a lot of fun!

[-] noxy@yiffit.net 18 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

dont you fucking get my hopes.up

this was my wallpaper for like a YEAR

please no hydrogen tho

[-] arefx@lemmy.ml 16 points 2 weeks ago

More cars that look like they are from cyberpunk 2077 and less cars that are the cybertruck from tesla

[-] Evil_Shrubbery@lemm.ee 15 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Why not make it a continuous production?

Perhaps models would get Miata like following, not the most expensive or popular cars, but a bit special/unique, and available to people.

[-] BallShapedMan@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago

I'll sign the petition to make this happen 😂

[-] Evil_Shrubbery@lemm.ee 4 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Quick, someone set that EU petitions page, let's force them :D
(I'm joking, but if possible I would really sign it - if traffic is forced on me, I should have a say in how it looks, not just what I drive)

[-] SomeGuy69@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago

I really really really want that car, but I'll never be able to own one. I take this over any other car.

[-] espentan@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago

I'm worried we'll get the usual slew of changes for the production version. E.g. hood can't be that low, pedestrian hazard, can't have that sheet metal crease there, too expensive, pillars must be thicker for the roof to handle rollover events etc..

And no, I'm not saying safety is silly, I just hate it a tiny bit when designers tease us with stunning designs, designs they know can't be progressed, as is, beyond a prototype stage.

[-] zzx@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

100% agree with your sentiment. I hope the production model looks JUST like this, it's beautiful as is.

[-] mostNONheinous@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

R34 x Delorean.

[-] venusaur@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

Don’t even care how it drives. Looks that good.

[-] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

Awesome. I bet they’ll all be sold before the first one rolls off the assembly line.

[-] phoneymouse@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

I don’t even like sports cars that much, but this thing is fucking sick!

[-] ramenshaman@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

Looks amazing. They really need to revamp their logo, it doesn't vibe with their current vehicles. Kia did a nice job.

[-] Odelay42@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

Agreed. People make fun of the new kia logo, but I think it's nice.

If it makes engine noises I'm gonna rip my hair out.

[-] BallShapedMan@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Because you like that or don't like that?

I thought the Ionic 5 N with fake shifts and engine noise was dumb at first until I realized just how useful it is on track. I'm learning how to race real cars (and sim) and have learned we pay attention to the gear we're in by turn and where in that gear we're at not the speed the vehicle is traveling. So there is a purpose.

[-] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Thank you for confirming something I've suspected, which is that engine noises aren't just for fun but provide useful feedback on how the car is driving.

Now that is a boy car.

[-] brygphilomena@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Might be the first Hyundai I'd be willing to consider.

So they're actually going to go forward with the hybrid battery electric + compact hydrogen fuel cell system?

Mind, this car rips, but the road version won't be able to have all the race car aero unless it's sold at supercar prices

[-] BallShapedMan@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

I hope they use a solid state battery ideas. Hydrogen will be a no go for me.

[-] RightHandOfIkaros@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

I like the look of it. Looking forward to see what kind of engines people put into these bodies.
