They still seem to require a real name if I look at the registration process. Kind of a deal breaker to me.

What happens if you put whatever you want in there?

Or start your own instance? Or join an instance that doesn't care?

I guess at worse they would ban you. It's a closed off system though, so you can't even check whether people frequently use (obvious) fake names or not.

Edit: Small correction. You can actually see some users and their names in the Discovery tab, some with obvious non real names. I'm guessing it depends on your instance whether how much they care about it.

i doubt you'll get banned lol, it's probably not that deep to the admins.

if anyone is concerned about it, just open the instance ToS and ctrl+f "name". im sure it's not important.

A nice place to discuss rumors, happenings, innovations, and challenges in the technology sphere. We also welcome discussions on the intersections of technology and society. If it’s technological news or discussion of technology, it probably belongs here.

Remember the overriding ethos on Beehaw: Be(e) Nice. Each user you encounter here is a person, and should be treated with kindness (even if they’re wrong, or use a Linux distro you don’t like). Personal attacks will not be tolerated.
