List all the essential softwares you are using. Some of them will work natively (Teams, Matlab), some will need minimal tinkering and some would need alternatives (MS Office).

Based on what you have and what you want to do, Linux may (or may not) be a good choice.

From a privacy standpoint, Lineage OS uses hard-coded Google IPs for some core functionalities (DNS, NTP, Webview). MentalOutlaw did a video on this and how it can be removed by rooting your phone.

I think censorship in the Fediverse works because you can always find a host which aligns with your ideology. Bad ideas automatically die out if the overwhelming majority of people stop spreading it, not because a giant megacorp decides it's not a good message to show to their shareholders.

When the start menu was left aligned, you can move you mouse infinitely to the lower left and still click it irrespective of the initial location of the mouse (There is a term for this concept in UX design called infinite space or similar). For similar reasons, the close (x) button is in the upper right corner.

However with the start menu in the center, you have to accurately place the mouse on the start icon and there cannot be a muscle memory since the movement depends on the initial location.

I think the tech community should come to the realization that most people (no, not in your immediate circle which is mostly tech) don't want choice; they want ease of use, which means guidance.

Why would a person, who can't differentiate between google, a web browser, an app, or even the internet, want to change their device settings on their own which requires 10 clicks when their experience can be configured by zero clicks by a mega corp? This is a systemic issue in our society and needs to be corrected at school level in some sort of "Social media awareness/IT class".

All Discord groups which manage Minecraft servers should announce this change. I manage a small one myself and did it just a day back.
