half your age plus seven. 20 is pretty dang old for 16

Let's put it this way. It's a felony if he has sex with you.

Ha thanks! I should do a write up of it all

Okay so, first you should post on !satisfactory@lemmy.world.

That being said, congrats your factory has officially grown to a large state. 4 cores will NOT be enough to run this game. If you look at htop or something you can see full cpu usage, I'm guessing you'll see one core pinned at 100%

To understand how the server works, it chunks the entire game map and then shards that across available cores. So your 4 core server each core is handling a quarter of the map. That's a lot of factory on one core kemosabe. My server is a 24 core beast with still very high single core rates. You can feel when you're working on another core that has less load when you walk into a new area and your frame rate jumps.

My group has had several iterations of our server, from being on shared resources, to a 48 core thread ripper (plenty of cores but single clock speed wasn't enough), to finally we bought a 5950x for our Update 8 factory - and even then you're still going to notice some rubber banding when you get to late game/factory spans across the entire map big.

Now, thinking about it too, is this happening at intervals? If so, that's your saves happening. As your saves get larger the auto save will take longer, and that means longer time the client doesn't talk to the server, so it rubber bands your last known server positions. If it takes too long the client will disconnect. To fix this just update how long it is allowed before timing out, that's on the dedicated server wiki. We usually call out when a save is about to happen and take it as a break to stand up, stretch, and get more coffee.

Beyond getting more cores and a higher single core clock speed, the other massive thing that will help is spreading your factory out. Allowing your factory to take advantage of multiple chunks and multiple cores will have a noticeable impact. Make very liberal use of trains, my last factory had over 60 rail lines and 100 trains running around. It's a lot easier to manage a train car with 10,000 items stored as an integer than hundreds of miles of interconnected belts that it constantly has to shift around on.

I'll have more info later, should probably write a wiki, but those few changes will have a noticeable impact.

Source, I've ran a dedicated satisfactory server for about 4 years now, on bare iron, docker, and in kubernetes. Helped many others set up their servers too

That's what I don't get, it's obviously the character. It's not about who's acting the character, but you're the Wicked witch. One of the most iconic villains in all of history. The hat literally does speak more than the face

It really sounds like this was a sticking point to her. I said elsewhere, but it really sounds like she's the one who forced her full face to be seen on the poster, or at least that's the impression she leaves us with after reading this.

Which makes me think that the original design was closer to the original, and sounds like she made a stink about it.

[-] scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech 11 points 16 hours ago

Sorry it was a screenshot of a screenshot I'm pretty sure. Yeah I mean, I'm not going to go and say the fan edit is a masterpiece or anything, but it's fan content. They obviously love wicked and wanted to match the original poster.

Getting upset at fan content is a weird take. On one hand you could see that they're excited for your work and just ignore it, or you could do... This.

The best part is that this is pure Steisand effect. No it would have seen the fan edit if she had just ignored it

Fans customized the Wicked movie poster to more closely match the original Broadway poster.

Original Broadway Poster:

Movie poster:

Some fans, disappointed by the poster, altered it to be closer to the original, moving Grande’s hand and lowering the brim of Erivo’s hat to cover her eyes. The edits prompted Erivo to respond. “This is the wildest, most offensive thing I have seen

“None of this is funny. None of it is cute. It degrades me. It degrades us,” Erivo continued. “The original poster is an ILLUSTRATION. I am a real life human being, who chose to look right down the barrel of the camera to you, the viewer… because, without words we communicate with our eyes.”

So, this seems like a completely reasonable reaction to fans making fan content.

Surprisingly apparently no. You can buy it on steam and it will just be steam. I'm cautiously optimistic that maybe EA has finally learned their lesson with single player games - but we'll see how DA4 is to verify that.

They even went out of their way to get SteamDeck certified

Ah they want those nice cheap developers

I'm judge JimBob and I suddenly have a great interest in whatever I was told to because I ~~deeply care about the people~~ was definitely not given millions in stock for large companies

Step one to not being an asshole is to just stop thinking people should not be alive anymore. That's literally the easiest thing. Just literally being cool with people being alive.

Those fuckers. 24 hour fitness was mine but same bullshit. Had to call a call center in India which game me the runaround for an hour trying to cancel. Then best of it, they wouldn't let me cancel my wife's subscription that was coming off my credit card, said she had to call in and do the same even though it was my credit card and she was standing right next to me.

Then they had the gall to say I owed at least 3 more months because of what I gather is bullshit.

That's the only time I've ever done a charge back on my credit card. Fuckers. Best part is the charge back revoked the last few months of payments too, my credit card person was super nice. So by pushing for 3 months extra that they didn't eat or deserve, it pushed me to charge back and they ended up losing 3 months from both my wife and I, effectively giving us those last 3 months for free.

Correct. FS2020 had many different settings. You could have sweet ultrahd graphics streamed from azure, or you could do many lower qualities, or even pure offline as well. I'm guessing this will have similar options. Which is why I think this article is clickbait. Yes, it can stream that much from Azure - that doesn't mean it's required to.

Private and public investment in clean energy rose to a total of $147B in the first half of this year — a record-setting figure.

Exactly two years ago today, President Joe Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act, establishing a wide array of clean energy programs meant to supercharge spending on climate solutions.

Investment in clean energy projects — from solar manufacturing facilities to home batteries to hydrogen hubs — has taken off ever since, rising to record heights in the first half of this year.

Across the first six months of 2024, U.S. cleantech investment hit $147 billion, per new data from the Clean Investment Monitor, a joint project from Rhodium Group and the MIT Center for Energy and Environmental Policy Research. That’s a more than 30 percent jump from the first half of 2023. The report measures actual investment — not announcements or plans — from both public and private sources.

Length restriction on GPUs (poptalk.scrubbles.tech)

Hey folks! Not sure where to put this, but since I'm doing this to install Bazzite soon, why not.

I have a HTPC that currently has an NVidia card in it. Since Gamescope doesn't play nice with nvidia, I'm going to upgrade the GPU. I have a 6900XT in my primary rig, love the thing. here's the thing though, I was going to put it into my original HTPC, but it was too long by about 0.5 inches.

Does anyone have either A) a recommendation on a GPU that can drive a 4K tv that is shorter than 12" or B) Know of any good sites that have a filter?

It's a pretty intense machine, since the whole family uses it. I'm planning on about a grand for the new GPU, if it works like my 6900XT. Less is of course better, but I don't want this one struggling personally.

Thanks for any rec's!

Every day, we work to make our platform the best it can be, which includes regularly revisiting our terms and policies (also known as our House Rules) to make sure they meet the needs of our growing community and allow us to continue to support you. Today, we’re sharing a few updates that go into effect on September 15, 2024.

We’ve made some changes to our dispute resolution clause (section 11) for users in North and South America, with updates to our arbitration procedures for smaller matters and for coordinated or “mass” arbitrations (with 25 or more claimants). We have also updated the choice of law that’s applicable to the Terms. As before, the arbitration agreement includes a class action and jury waiver, which means we’ll be resolving most disputes in private, individual arbitration, and not in court. Please read this section carefully. We’ve added which entity acts as the merchant of record, depending on a buyer’s currency and location of your payment instrument.

So, if you're upset at all you can't sue, you can't go to the courts, you have to sit in a an arbitration with someone we choose who (trust us) won't be biased.

To add in, an annoyance for sure:

Effective July 29, our Adult Nudity and Sexual Content Policy introduces more rigorous guidelines regarding our prohibitions of nude or sexual content, as well as how to appropriately list certain mature content.

Gaming on Linux is great! (poptalk.scrubbles.tech)

I know, lame post, but I wanted to say that Linux gaming has gotten soooo much better, to the point that I honestly think my games are running better than on Windows. I've played so many games, but notable ones are Halo: MCC, MS Flight Sim 2020, Satisfactory, Mass Effect Legendary Edition, and right now I'm starting a full playthrough of Dragon Age.

Dragon Age is notorious even on Windows for being a pain because it's such an old game. You have to install the 4gb patch, and even then it's a bit rocky. Not on Linux though! I did have to install PhysX but I googled it and saw it was 2 buttons to install on Linux! Now it's been rock solid and stable, with no crashes.

Linux gaming may have a high bar to learn, but that bar is constantly getting lower! Exciting times!

A decline in fossil fuel power is now ‘inevitable’, the report's authors say.

Curious to see how many people here are using Wyoming Satellites, and if so, what are you doing to build/house them?

I have a sample one working on an old pi and a computer speaker hooked up, with my primary Blue mic. Obviously this isn't long term, and I'm looking at building a few of these.

So, what do you use? Raspberry pi? Some sort of hat on it? What sort of casing do you use? Any really cool implementations? I'll take all ideas and suggestions!

Not that I use them anymore anyway, cancelling my old account, but name and shame any companies who conveniently can't support their free base. Also - it's VNC. It's a protocol. There's a dozen free clients out there.
