That thread was definitely getting toxic af, specifically the troll that posted. I agree with ya'll saying it makes sense to encourage discussion, esp on topics that're controversial, but like go read some of that OP's comments on that thread! They were being shitty to people just to be shitty - I think the mod made the right call for sure.

Even if the mod were off base, no excuse to treat 'em like shit!

Or when water gets in your ear during the shower and when that water finally gets out. Same feeling in c/memes@lemmy.ml

Idahoan here - yeah coming from a fairly mormon-laden family tree (and community), it's pretty common around here. And like others said it typically goes both ways - the guys treat it like the gals are helpless without a man to carry the income. This place is fucking backwards and culturally prehistoric.

Don't even get me started on the bigotry & maltreatment towards trans/gay folks. If there were a progress bar for moving toward healthy / compassionate behavior towards those groups this place would be at fucking 0%, genuinely. Obscenely disrespectful.

Somehow USB disks are still the easiest and most reliable way in c/lemmyshitpost@lemmy.world

For what's worth, I registered for the FCC's do not call registry way back and it helped a bit - but once you're registered, if you get spam calls, you can report the numbers to the FCC for having called you despite being on the registry. YMMV but it might be worth a shot!
