Okay you do some good advertising I'm considering the purchase

I think it's because comics keep refrying the same story over and over again. Boot, let it run, reboot, let it run, reboot ... You get the idea. They try to spice things up and change stuff - the equivalent of remixing a classic song ad infinitum, some iterations will be better than others and you will probably like some more than the original but it's the same song.

Manga and anime have originality on the other hand. Even if some genres become cliche, each story remains a closed entity. Characters here don't end up elsewhere, and once a story is complete it doesn't get a reboot. This means the audience can relate more easily to a franchise, because there are not as many variants, and then move on to the next.

There is also less influence in Manga from current affairs, society and history, whereas comics always meddle with those three just too much. Mangas released in the 80s remain relatable today, but a lot of comics don't for example, or feel like they've aged awkwardly.

So it's easy for people to remain 'loyal' to an anime franchise, but difficult for the average comic.

Yeah, it's not Spain but Argentina which is absolute chaos. I'm 99% confident the records are still on paper and getting chewed by rats in some moldy basement. It's OK.

Wait the IA is still going on? I've been getting an error whenever i tried to access it for days now

Argentina. Most likely record keeping and digitization is just crap.

I don't know if I can be bothered with dna, but thanks for letting me know. Also appreciate your offer but I really don't feel comfortable. If I ever change my mind I'll let you know!

My family tree has Latin American, Spanish and Italian roots. The Italian part before emigration is easy, but anybody else is invisible

Hello. I studied fine arts two years, then illustration for three at uni, then did 3d design and animation for some other three years.

Let me tell you, making a living as an artist is incredibly, very very extremely difficult and even harder - at least three times harder - than what you imagine.

I'm currently struggling with a plebe job in retail. And I do have some solid artistic skills. I was usually among the top of my class, anywhere.

My advice to you is, drop sculpture and pick something else. I would not recommend fashion design unless you feel it's a super strong calling- remember you can learn these things at your own pace if they turn out to be something you still have an interest in.

Just pick something that gives you a "job title", anything. Anything non artistic is much more likely to be useful to you if you don't have a strong need or conviction to express yourself artistically. This shouldn't even be a question; an artist knows what they are and flies straight into the flame. It's crazy. If you don't feel the calling, please do something useful for your future.

Why and how would we know if something like that could be true? Like imagine I say, yes! When we die we get a new life and such and such. Or, no, we die and we go to heaven and play the harps for eternity. What kind of evidence are you accepting to take something as a truth?

[-] Mothra@mander.xyz 3 points 1 week ago

There is an overlap though, but first I'll answer your question.

Belief is anything you take as a truth, often without any means of proof. There are conscious beliefs and I guess subconscious ones.

Knowledge is anything you are aware of; your personal recollection of life data.

Therefore anything you consciously believe in requires you to first acquire knowledge of it.

Things get complicated because we usually take in most knowledge as facts and truths, which means we believe in a lot of what we know. But it's not easy to always know which knowledge actually doesn't represent reality.

My teeth are in good health and I take good care of them, yet I always get this plaque buildup no matter what I try.

I've tried different brushes, toothpastes, and flossing methods to no avail. Mouthwash is too harsh on my mouth and peels my skin off so I avoid that.

I haven't tried waterpicks or electric brushes yet. Did you? Did they work for you? Have you succeeded in preventing plaque and if so, how???

It happened to my car last week, it got towed to a mechanic and I'm yet to hear back. I don't know a lot about cars, so I'm hoping I'll learn something here and be able to tell if the mechanic tries to rip me off.

The car is a small hatchback automatic Hyundai Getz, 2009, serviced regularly. I've had it for 6 years with no major issues until about a year or so.

Five days ago I was driving through the city for at least 40 minutes when suddenly, while waiting at the lights, the car shook and for a moment I thought it would stall. I stopped on a side street, waited 20 minutes and resumed my journey.

About an hour later I'm on the motorway and it shakes again. I stop on the shoulder, wait, but it's not a safe area. I start again, only now I have the check engine light on my dashboard blinking. I manage to take an exit and my car stops on its own, the oil and battery lights now visible too. Fortunately there is no traffic here so I wait a minute, start again and park it on the shoulder.

Roadside assistance arrives, the mechanic looks at it and finds nothing wrong with it other than a fuel sensor which is an issue I've had for several years now. We get it towed to a mechanic but they were closing shop by the time I arrived. Before closing the shop mechanic says that at a glance he doesn't see anything, but notes the oil looks very clean.

I've never had the car shake like this. The last time it failed me was early this year, when it overheated during a very hot day, but it didn't shake. I've had the thermostat repaired since as well as a minor coolant leak.

Congrats, you've read this far. Thoughts?

I keep seeing it on my random feed suggestions and this is using NewPipe, so it has nothing to do with my actual YouTube activity (I think. Nothing there is stuff I'm interested in, with very few exceptions). So I've ignored it first, then I watched like two and was super confused. Wtf. These videos have millions of views and I don't even understand the name or what's the appeal.

I'm looking for easy-to-listen-to fiction audiobooks. Something I can tune in while doing other stuff without getting distracted.

I find some authors have styles that are a bit more sophisticated than others. The more thought-provoking, the more difficult I find to enjoy an audiobook while doing something else. I catch myself stopping whatever I'm doing to pay attention to the book, which is not what I want.

So for example I've found The Witcher books very easy to listen to, it wouldn't matter if I missed a few seconds and I never found myself stopping to ponder about the text itself. The narrator was great too. Also bonus points as it was a long saga of books.

In contrast I would never want to listen to a Terry Pratchett book while doing something else. He's probably my favourite English author but I find he's too much of a genius, and my poor brain wouldn't be able to digest it all if I'm not giving it my attention 100%.

I hope this makes sense?

How's your experience with audiobooks?

As the title says. I thought that was brilliant on Reddit, just checking people's profiles would lead to some cool discoveries of communities I would have never thought of by myself.

Is this a feature somewhere?

Edit: of course users have the option to not show these, no I don't want to violate anyone's privacy

Ahoy! I know this has been asked a lot already, I've been following up and doing some research online but I'm still confused. Sorry.

1-I'm not exactly tech savvy. (Ok. I'm thick as a brick) 2-I'm a very casual BitTorrent user. I'll go months without torrenting.

3-I do stream more frequently.

4-I travel often, meaning I don't often have admin access to the networks I connect to

I currently have Nord. I heard it's no longer as trusted as it used to, and since my subscription is ending I'm wondering if I should jump ship.

I read I should be using Port Forwarding, and I get the concept of it somewhat but I'm still not sure if I need it (considering my casual torrent use, so far... I've been ok?), and also, I have no idea how to set that up. (would #4 be a problem?).

Now, VPN: Mullvad, AirVPN, and Proton seem to be the most reliable ones. Is that right?

Air has good pricing atm, and port forwarding. I heard it's not too user friendly though? (#1)

Mullvad seems to have a solid rep. but no port forwarding (It used to? Their website doesn't say much unless I create an account?)

Proton: has PF, seems good too

Or should I just stick with Nord?

TLDR which VPN should I go for considering 1,2,3,4, and should I consider port forwarding in my decision?

Thanks

Hi Lemmings. Just wondering if you have any recommendations for this. I used to work with Clockify but I'm wondering, since there is a solid FOSS userbase here, if you know of a good, simple, offline, reliable no-frills app that tracks time spent working and can actually tell if I'm idle/afk .

Thanks!

Keyword artist , or band/group name. I'm not looking for a genre, I want to search artists. Tell me about someone you like listening to.

Would appreciate if it's Not symphonic/orchestral movie/videogame OST. I know there is a lot of really good music in this category but I'm trying to avoid recommendations like Hans Zimmerman or Jeremy Soule or Enya etc., since they are either really well known or fall into the orchestral and/or "epic music score" I'm not looking for.

It's OK if some tracks have vocals or even some lyrics/voice samples but I prefer to keep them at a minimum.

Any suggestions? TIA

Edit: I've found a method to improve this, I'll edit the post below. Photo attached!

I made a mistake, and bought a bag of muesli thinking it was cereal clusters. There is nobody else to blame other than my stupidity.

I don't think I know how to eat this thing. It's practically rolled oats with bits of fruit and nuts and all bran kind of cereals added in the mix but hardly noticeable.

I tried eating it like cereal, adding it to yoghurt or milk. It tastes like insipid cardboard flakes sprinkled with fruit. I tried cooking porridge with it, that was an improvement but I still find it boring.

Perhaps you have some suggestions on how to actually enjoy eating what's left of it? Bonus points if you know how to make it crunchy.

Thanks

Edit: I don't typically add sugar to things or even buy sugary cereal. My problem with this thing is the texture first and foremost. Thanks for your concern on how much processed foods I don't buy or like are harming my life.

Edit 2: Tried the overnight method, it's better than porridge as the consistency is much firmer and less slimey. Plus, it's cold already.

Toasting or baking on a tray makes it so much better and crispy, it doesn't feel chewing cardboard anymore.

Finally I tried making clusters and this is the best method for me. Just let the muesli soak a few hours in water until it takes a semisolid consistency. I spread the paste in blotches on a tray, and baked for around an hour at low heat. These clusters are very crunchy!

Photo shows the round container with the muesli straight out of the bag vs the toasted and clustered versions I made in the other container.

Such a long title.

Basically I'm wondering if this happens IRL, and how. I've heard countless stories of people who hold a grudge against family members /ex partners/ ex friends/ neighbours etc. for years, and they do horrible things to each other. Or maybe just the cold shoulder can be rough especially for such a long time. But not so many stories of people in these situations who suddenly talk things out unexpectedly, out of their own will and not because they kept getting nagged about whatever happened.

I've also heard about people who screw up big once, never acknowledge or apologize, then everyone puts the episode behind and moves on. But I've never heard about suddenly this person perhaps decades afterwards just actually addressing their screw up and apologizing.

So, have you ever received one of these big, unexpected apologies? Or have you ever apologized for something you did you never thought you would want or dare to apologize for?

I'm a very casual sailor, and not very tech savvy, but I've torrented and used magnet links in the past with no issues.

I found the file I'm looking for. But things have changed. The site I used doesn't provide magnets anymore, only Rapidgator links (split into 5 rar files, this is going to take me days) for direct downloads .

Every other link I found sends me to torrent trackers I need to create an account for, such as RuTracker. Which I tried, and with different emails, (brand new emails) yet every time I get rejected. Why? What am I doing wrong? Do I need to wait a couple of hours after creating the account? Are the sites not accepting registrations anymore?

I drive a small automatic car. For the most part, it struggles a bit with steep uphills, and picks up speed when going downhill. That's to be expected.

But then I noticed some downhills actually slow it down. I've noticed during a two-hour motorway trip I often do to visit family, there are some specific downhills, not all, just some, where my car always slows down and I have no idea why.

Ideas?
