Tinier city have a really good tramway system too. Saint Etienne, Tours, Montpellier and many others have a great tramway system that is as good as a metro.

Yeah alsobutly they are doing exactly that. My personal take is that "economical et political environment" means everything and nothing. Car industry are glad that ppl are mad a intengible stuff that they can't do shit about because they can do business as usual and complain that every individual action is as the same time too much and too little. In this instance I don't give a fuck that a car dealer get their expensive SUV damaged. But we also have to promote alternative and better infrastructure.

Meh, I would say fuck SUV for existing ! And they specifically target a seller in response of a child being killed INSIDE a school by an SUV.

Backpacking and bike is already a viable option in my country and it is the holidays I like the most. And I feel like it is more and more popular (my girlfriend job is to organise horse hiking for multiple days and it is awesome). Not going on the other side of the world but living even greater adventure nearby.

I agree with you, and I am an urbanist working in a small town in France (5000 hab) we thought about using this kind of technique but ultimately for the reasons you mention we back track a bit. For the few test we did, we noticed that paint is never enough (car already does not respect regular paint, a bit on our part in my opinion cause we design it wrong but that another subject). You have to work on why ppl come here by car, how they can use other roads, make this one difficult for non essential uses and make the other modes more convenient. Paint alone can't do that.

But, with other measures, as a transition step to a long term project asphalt art can be useful. (I mean, I hope so xD we worked on a summer redisign project with light elements, artist event and paint in one of our street. I hope it will work to be the first step of a better project).

I'm in the same mood but with replacing my car. My car is at the end of the life cycle. And I have no intention of prolonging it much longer. It would cost me money an buying a new car really threatened my budget balance. Gladly I live in a small European town and I don't need a car for work so everything should be ok for me. The only problem is that I want to use government credit for an ebike by getting rid of my car, the thing is that I live in a flat and I don't have a bike garage.
