Manjaro and Debian

I don't get this. Charge a reasonable price for the game, which should include all in game content. Don't make people pay for the game and then for more stuff in the game, especially if it gives them an unfair advantage over other players just for having paid.

All of these would be fixed by banning in game purchases with real money.

Doesn't seem to work on mobile Firefox, I'll have to try it on my computer later.

Lol!

I recognise Asimov, HHGttG and Futurama, but what's the second one?

And they may have been right. But getting code is usually the end result, not proving you're some better programmer. And useful tools may be used to help you with the aforementioned goal.

We all knew that already, and a game isn't exactly a flawless simulation of the real world that they would accept anyway. Even if they agreed that they were a leech, they would still most likely stay landlords oir of selfishness.

I apologise, my intent was not to mislead anyone, I simply edited my comment quickly after listing it to add more detail, and I thought that you has read the updated version when you replied. I have since clarified the original comment.

As for

I assure you that could look up the definitions of those words, if you were so inclined.

I already know several definitions, as I have said in comments that you definitely have read, but that wouldn't tell me what you meant by them.

It apparently has an Android version, but for an open source app, it's not on F-Droid?

[-] JackGreenEarth@lemm.ee -1 points 5 days ago

I was asking what you meant by it. How did you define the terms bad, Nazi, and murder?

Yes I think morality is subjective, but as I explained in my last comment, my subjective morality would mostly agree with your statement in the way I interpreted it, with some nuance. But I only know how I should interpret your statement if you define your terms more clearly.

[-] JackGreenEarth@lemm.ee -2 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Define 'bad'.

And 'Nazis' too for that matter, I don't know if you mean literally members of Hitler's National 'Socialist' party, or something else.

I would generally concur that killing (murder is sometimes defined as 'unjustified' killing, which is screaming for a definition of what is 'justified' killing) does more harm than good, ie is subjectively immoral according to my own sense of morality, which was shaped through my genes that were shaped by evolution, the society I live and grew up in and the experiences I've had.

But killing in self defense might be moral. If someone was a member of the Nazi party because they lived in 1930s Deutschland and didn't feel like they had any other option if they wanted their family to be safe, but didn't actively participate in it or help oppress minorities, and found themselves stopped on the way home by a person with a gun one night, who threatened to kill them, would it be that immoral for them to shoot their attacker in self defense?

Of course, you may disagree with me on various aspects, that's why it's important to clarify your terms, and not make blanket and loaded statements such as 'Nazis murdering people is bad'.

Edit: for the sake of clarity, everything after the first line is an edit.

Blocking children from online communities is blocking them from seeing external views outside of the bubbles their parents indoctrinate them into, it's blocking them from seeing information to realise if they're in an abusive situation and seeking help, it's marginalising LGBT+ youth if, through no fault of their own, they happen to be born to ultra religious or LGBT+ phobic parents.

I need an Android device for archival purposes, it has several requirements and I would appreciate any suggestions. I've done some research myself, but I would appreciate it maybe you know of something I haven't discovered.

Requirements:

  • Must fit inside this Faraday pouch, or a different one that is of a similar price, and is both water and fire proof
  • Must support an open OS (Degoogled, rooted Android ROM or Linux - both support touch interfaces, Kiwix, and storing and viewing files)
  • at least 256GB internal storage to store the files
  • at least 8GB RAM for running local AI models, preferably nearer 16GB
  • Good battery life, since it will stay inside the pouch most of the time and I don't want to have to take it out to charge it every day
  • As cheap as possible

I have no other requirements, it doesn't even have to have a camera, let alone a good one.

Thanks for all your help!

Android 14, an update released on 22 June under no more description than 'security update' has stopped syncthing being able to write to folders, even the few it allowed me to previously specifically grant access to. I can't add a folder to sync, as it says 'your android version hasn't granted syncthing write access, this folder is locked to read only' and then doesn't even add it.

My specific model, moto g73 doesn't support root or custom ROMs, which I wasn't aware of when I got it, but I have it now and apart from that it's a really good phone, so I hope there is some way to rescue this.

I should have the option to decline their 'security', even if it is buried under many layers of settings, and grant the apps storage permission anyway. Otherwise it is not security, it is them stealing ownership of my device from me.

It should absolutely be Motorola's onus to fix this, not the hardworking Syncthing team, but if you do know some way to get this working again, I would be grateful.

EDIT: Oh, by the way, this update also stopped every file manager app I had, of which I had three, one being the native Android file manager itself, working properly.

Edit2: This only seems to apply to the micro SD card storage, not internal storage. Unfortunately, I've filled up my internal storage and need to use my micro SD card. I was using Syncthing as a backup, so I had a copy in case the micro SD card corrupted everything.

Edit: apparently this is a very common form of Japanese storytelling called an isekai. There are 8 billion people in this world, no idea can be original. And sometimes you miss out on things many other people know. I'm clearly one of today's lucky 10000.

They would lose any magical powers they may have had in the book, but anything they are, rather than can do, will stay. For example people from the His Dark Materials world would keep their daemons. You can take them out at any time in the story's plot, but for all other people consuming the media, it will be shown that the character suddenly disappears, with the rest of the plot being affected accordingly. People will notice this happening. The character is not under any sort of control by you once you have taken them out of the story, although they will appear next to you to start with.

What does your desktop look like? (share.jackgreenearth.org)
submitted 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) by JackGreenEarth@lemm.ee to c/linux@lemmy.ml

Here's mine. No inspiration at all taken from a certain California based company's OS ;p

I use:

  • Manjaro OS
  • GNOME desktop
  • WhiteSur icon theme (with a few icons changed in the desktop file)
  • WhiteSur GTK and shell theme
  • Bing wallpaper
  • net speed simplified
  • Logo Menu
  • Show Desktop
  • Top Bar Organiser (to move the time to the right)
  • Overview background

I apologise if I missed anything.

Great, the worst of both worlds. (share.jackgreenearth.org)

I can't root my phone because I don't have an image for it (Moto G73) although I'd like to, but for some reason my banking app thinks it's rooted and refuses to work. This happened just after I updated it, it wasn't happening before.

Edit: I'm regretting not getting the Motorola Edge 40 Neo, which also costs £250, but is slightly better in multiple ways, and seems like it has better root support.
