What's a good way to respond to sms messages on my phone, through my desktop pc? I do not have wifi, just my phone's usb/tethering connection.

I've had bad experiences with KDE Connect, specifically with group chats. Last time I used it to reply to a group chat, it sent a text to each person individually.

I'm also on Windows so that might be my fault.

Are there any guides to get this working on windows, only using a usb tether connection? It seems to want the devices to be connected to the same network to talk to each other. Am I missing something?

Yes, you do need both devices to be on the same network. USB tethering does just that (your pc connects to your phones internet connection).

I just get this on android.

On the desktop client, it also shows no devices

you could try the hamburger menu in the top right to add your pc with an (network) IP. If you're tethered and that doesn't work I'm out of ideas.

  • on Plasma 6 it now supports Bluetooth
  • if you use a VPN and use it over wifi you need to exclude the apps
  • you need to open firewall ports to use it

It's probably not exactly what they're looking for, but it was my first thought too.

OP, if you have Internet access via USB tethering, then it doesn't really matter that you don't have Internet access via wifi. Everything works just the same.

Just wanted to say thanks, this works perfect so far and ended up being the most viable solution for me.

Is Google voice an option for you? I text from any device via GV flawlessly

rather not use google, but thank you.

It’s blocked by a lot of services for 2FA which is a problem.

And who knows when Google will kill it.

I've used it for years now, waiting for it to die.

Pushbullet. Even though it's always been problematic for me, it's worked fine for most people I know.

Edit: Nevermind, didn't notice the community this is in.
