Themed sets of names are so cool I wish I had thought of one. One of my friends names all of theirs after noble gasses meanwhile I have things like albrecht, yoda, echo, cascade, europa, and the one I let another friend name: hairless cat
My main is literally just the model name, my main server is "imaginary-tree" as a reference to Honkai Impact, and the two others are test and test2... So not that creative.
Although I do add "MkX" to show how many times I reinstalled the OS. Turns out, I accidentally broke them a lot-
Thanks!
As long as you are informing us with great pleasure, saul goodman
Out of curiosity, is there a reason why your machine is called Pearl-II instead of something like Peridot? I also like your names btw
Well, since I started using the naming scheme, I have several lines of machines. Pearl-II (MacBookPro11,1; 2014) is the successor of Pearl (MacBook2,1; 2007), both of which are part of the Pearl line.
Lengthy explanation
Essentially:
I also use the diamonds for my family's devices, if I need to assign hostnames; and Jasper for any Windows devices or VMs I have to use.
Also, I only bought three of these devices: Garnet, Peridot, and Larimar. The rest I was given by my uncle over the course of about a decade. Essentially, whenever a line gets an upgrade, the other lines rearrange. For example, when I was given Pearl-II last month, it replaced Amethyst as the machine I take to sixth form, so Amethyst replaced Lapis, Lapis replaced the original Pearl, and the original Pearl was retired.
Before I started using this, I just used to use random names that had something to do with the OS, so my ThinkPad was "Nemesis" and my main machine was "Archangel".

Wait a minute......
Flawless Garnet
Same except that was my server (Fedora 40 Beta). I nuked it and installed Ubuntu Server on it and reinstalled everything. Works but man bad timing as I'm moving out in a month
what does Steam use?
You mean steam deck? Custom version of arch. But even pacman is locked by default there so I doubt the naughty package made it there
I think Steam runtime has some xz stuff does it not?
