I've heard of pay to play games becoming free to play, but a free to play game going pay to play?
The only benefit I could see (if this actually happened with anything; I get this is just a glitch) is maybe there would be fewer cheaters because it's harder to buy a new game (especially if it's $50-70) than make a new free account.

I remember hearing that when it was newish... Wasn't it like a completely different game to the battle Royale? I never actually saw it, or played it and was always confused about it when I'd run across people mentioning it.
AFAIK it’s a PvE game that utilizes the same mechanics as the battle royale game, but otherwise is mostly separate. I think if you purchase it you get a bunch of XP for Fortnite BR by playing it each season though
Yeah, it was originally like a Minecraft clone, but with a zombie tower defense mechanic. That's why it has the building mechanic that seems pointless in a battle Royale game.
I've heard Gigantic (a 3rd person PvP hero shooter) will become pay to play when it's revived. Also, the benefit would be they wouldn't need battle pass and other FOMO monetization tactics to support the game

You were able to spin what would essentially be an obviously greed based decision to milk more cash from the users into a semi-believable 'it's actually for the user benefit' story that apple is so renowned for like : no charger ? Think of the planet!, no sideloading/alt-stores ? It's so big bad viruses doesn't get you! ,etc

Sadly, that's enough for most people. Some Apple fans were literally praising Apple for thinking about the planet by not giving them the better and faster charger because they already had the older, slower one at home. Then these same people would order the new faster charger that is then shipped to their home and comes in box full of plastic.
