There are thousands of great books waiting to be made. Why does Hollywood keep revisiting the same 12 stories?

[-] MeanEYE@lemmy.world 10 points 10 months ago

Because they were successful in the past and they are banking on your nostalgia to influence your decision to go an see it.

Hollywood: “What is books?”

[-] MeanEYE@lemmy.world 12 points 10 months ago

Yeah, this feels off. Quick shots of actors without their voice being present. Yeah, I'll believe it when I see it. Chances are kid actors suck.

They better not screw this one up. Looks promising.

[-] turkalino@lemmy.yachts 13 points 10 months ago

The original show’s creators left this project almost immediately after it started. Not a good look.

They didn't just leave. They left citing creative differences and more or less burned the bridge as they crossed it.

If One Piece was any indication we should be eating good.

Cowboy Bebop would like a word

[-] s1ndr0m3@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago

As would Death Note.

[-] BellaDonna@mujico.org 1 points 10 months ago

I loved the Cowboy Bebop show and was genuinely surprised people didn't.

[-] synapse1278@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

You mean the original anime, or the latest live-action ?

[-] BellaDonna@mujico.org 1 points 10 months ago

The live action. I thought it was great an extremely faithful.

[-] stewsters@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

I thought it was decent, but not great. I really liked them exploring the characters a bit more.

If they would have cut the last minute off it would have been better. I don't honestly know what they should have done with Ed, but probably not that.

Yeah their one hit in an ocean of anime adaptation blunders.

[-] MeanEYE@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

Which it is not. It's an exception rather than the rule. Netflix ass-rapes every IP they get their dirty and greedy hands on.

[-] stephen01king@lemmy.zip 2 points 10 months ago

One Piece is only an indication of what it could be if the original creator had creative control and can deny any executive decision. Doesn't sound like it's the case here.

[-] hansl@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

It will be very good and cancelled after two seasons.

[-] CosmicSploogeDrizzle@lemmy.world 6 points 10 months ago

If they stick to the anime I'm really excited. It looks like they are doing it right. The casting is also fantastic.

I just hope they reminded Iroh that he needs to get swol lol

Interesting. Thanks for pointing that out. Now I'm deep in a wikipedia hole better understanding what anime means and what it doesn't. The more you know.

[-] Kaldo@kbin.social 2 points 10 months ago

I can't put my finger on why but it just feels off. It's like they are trying too hard but hitting the uncanny valley instead, or maybe I'm just too old and it's a bit cringe to me now? Then again I felt the same way about the netflix one piece and that turned out to be entertaining so who knows. If they go for that rather than expecting me to take it seriously maybe it works here for ATLA as well.
