just to be a bit of a devil that advocates thingies, i lost my pooch a bit ago and my family asked when they could get me a new pup. i told them i needed time and maybe around my upcoming bday. so, i think if its been discussed in some fashion... i think it okays.

but i do understand the overall point and i don't disagree - surprise pets tend to be a bad move.

[-] ratz30@lemmy.world 61 points 10 months ago

Pets should never be a surprise for sure. Having an idea that you've got one coming and being willing to take care of it is another story altogether

[-] XTornado@lemmy.ml 23 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

I mean I see were you are going but if they already wanted and you confirmed, like if the kid has wanted it and you are the parent or you talked with their parents, etc.. it's not that crazy.

I mean maybe I would go and make a gift card or something saying they can get it as a presen and if they are ok with it you then get it, ideally adopting of course.

Paying for something someone wants isn't the same as a surprise gift.

A parent buying a pet for their kids is actually a parent buying a pet for themselves; the parents very well know the pet is ultimately their responsibility.

I don't think anyone is saying to not do those things. It's the surprise of a pet that is heinous.

[-] XTornado@lemmy.ml 5 points 10 months ago

Can still be a surprise that they want it doesn't mean they expect it.

[-] Perfide@reddthat.com 20 points 10 months ago

Agreed. Even assuming you know the person wants a pet and can handle a pet, you're still robbing them of choice in what pet they get. The poodle is cute and all, but little timmy really would've preferred a border collie.

Pretty much the only scenario I can agree with gifting a pet is if you know they want one, know they can handle one, and finally when it comes to the actual gift giving, it starts off with a trip to the animal shelter so they can pick their own companion.

I'd bonk you to horny jail, but I get the feeling that it might be more reward than punishment

[-] Sibbo@sopuli.xyz 114 points 11 months ago

Schrödinger's meme: both family friendly and horny at the same time

[-] hstde@feddit.de 90 points 11 months ago

Real friends may find it weird but will accept it.

[-] genoxidedev1@kbin.social 58 points 11 months ago

I would go as far as to encourage it >:3

[-] Gabu@lemmy.world 21 points 10 months ago

uwu *touches fingers* ?

[-] H3wastooshort@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 10 months ago

you can easily find out by rightclicking the image and showing it in a new tab and copypasting the url into a texteditor, then rightclicking the image in the discord, copying the url, and pasting that too, and comparing both up to the ? (ignore everything afterwards)

[-] aBundleOfFerrets@sh.itjust.works 3 points 10 months ago

Two copy-pastes is not difficult.

[-] genoxidedev1@kbin.social 15 points 10 months ago

[-] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.world 10 points 10 months ago

In capitalist Reddit, beans meme you!

[-] Etterra@lemmy.world 35 points 10 months ago

Now you know one reason why you should always ask who a gift is for instead of assuming.

[-] ebenixo@sh.itjust.works 5 points 10 months ago

How would the confusing meme work if we can't assume that the protag is somehow idiotically/unrealistically confusing their own gift with the dogs?

[-] Cephirux@lemmings.world 28 points 11 months ago

Kind for them to get a partner for the dog so the dog won't feel lonely.

[-] Getallen@feddit.nl 28 points 10 months ago

OwO motherfucker

[-] uralsolo@hexbear.net 26 points 10 months ago

Broke: Giving someone a pet as a gift.

Woke: Making someone your pet as a gift.

[-] flerp@lemm.ee 6 points 10 months ago

I didn't understand the comic until I read your comment. I guess I'm too deep into the weird to understand that normal people don't understand/do the collar thing and thought the animal was like a dinner sacrifice or something. Very confused until I read your comment.
