4.2 K (-269⁰C) and 3,695 K (3,422⁰C) respectively for those wondering.

[-] VikingHippie@lemmy.wtf 18 points 11 months ago

I see. Not exactly ideal, I'd venture to say.

[-] Magnetar@feddit.de 27 points 11 months ago

Why? My favourite showering temperature is right in that interval.

[-] VikingHippie@lemmy.wtf 8 points 11 months ago

Mine too! Small world, huh? 😁

I got a thermostatic shower mixer from ikea and it's awsome. Just set your preffered temp and it will make sure it stays that way. It wasn't even that expensive. I wish more people knew about it.

Problem is that shower temperature is one of those problems that is enough to be annoying but not enough to demand being solved.

Didn't know about thermostatic mixers. Thanks.

Ten minutes every other day at most.

But glances over at xkcd

Arent’t these standard everywhere? These things are super common here in Europe.

[-] fatalError@lemmy.sdf.org 25 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Europe is not one homogenous continent. Here in Europe where I am they are not common, and I've been to at least 2 other countries here in Euorpe where these mixers were not common.

[-] CareHare@sh.itjust.works 1 points 11 months ago

Okay fair point. I think I've seen them, not everywhere mind you, but certainly encountered them in at least twelve countries here in Europe. So they're certainly wide spread.

[-] Crashumbc@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago

Not in the US, I've never seen one in person.

[-] Lennard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 11 months ago

Trust me, there are still many households with three super old two knobs style. It's just impossible to get a usable temperature with them.

[-] Lennard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 11 months ago

I got mine from Aldi for 40€. It works perfectly and turns easier than some of the expensive models at my friend's house.

[-] fatalError@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 11 months ago

I found cheaper options too, but decided to go with ikea because they offer replacement ceramic cartrige which is apparently the only thing that can break on these mixers.

[-] Radium@sh.itjust.works 24 points 11 months ago

You might want to have the mixing gasket replaced in your shower. It’s responsible for mixing hot and cold water in your shower and can be the culprit of your shower being too hot or too cold. They have a limited lifespan and need to be replaced eventually

This makes a lot of sense because my shower is too cold Right untill last half inch of motion Then is goes to too hot

[-] Faresh@lemmy.ml 1 points 4 weeks ago

How long is their lifespan usually?

I was in a doom metal band call Melty Melty Bones. We had to call it quits because it turned out that our music rumbled at a frequency that caused osteoporosis.

[-] GlitchyDigiBun@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 11 months ago

Is this a joke or the craziest thing I've never heard. Is that like the brown note or something?

[-] VikingHippie@lemmy.wtf 2 points 11 months ago

Just a joke on the name fitting the music but yeah, that WOULD be fucking crazy! 😄

My shower has its own favorite temperature and will slowly readjust itself to it.

It's OUR shower now, comrades.

[-] tiredofsametab@kbin.social 12 points 11 months ago

Japanese showers for the win: temperature is written right there on the nob for many.

[-] aksdb@feddit.de 6 points 11 months ago

Isn't there a physical limit to solving this problem? For me the problem is typically, that the water in the hot pipe has cooled down, so the first few seconds/half a minute it slowly rises in temperature until finally the pump of the boiler sets in to pump actually hot water back into the system. Only then can I reliably find a temperature mix that stays stable.

[-] Blackmist@feddit.uk 4 points 11 months ago

Mine is digital. Just set to desired temp and power and away you go.

[-] optissima@possumpat.io 1 points 11 months ago

Is it powered by the water pressure?

[-] Blackmist@feddit.uk 1 points 11 months ago

No, it's got a mixer box (for want of a better word) in the attic that's plugged into the mains.

There's a wireless dial that talks to that, and the water itself comes from the gas combi boiler, rather than electrically heated.

I think it was this one.

Quite a bit more expensive than a regular thermostatic mixer shower, but since I was having the whole bathroom done I figured why not spend a bit extra on some nicer stuff. The labour is still the most expensive part by far.

[-] Cloodge@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago

And when you get it right, it oscillates between nice and somewhat cold :(.
