All of these games would be terrible on phones. They're designed with controllers or keyboards in mind. I can't imagine trying to do a Resident Evil boss fight with touch controls.

You can connect up a controller + mount your phone to the controller - may not appeal to someone with a Steam Deck or similar, but I could see the appeal for normal people who wouldn’t have that.

I think iPads work as screens now, too? So maybe that's part of the plan, but I don't know what the latency is like.

Dualsense + usb c video out to a tv or monitor. You now have a console. Seems pretty cool to have around honestly.

Just need sideloading for emulators and i am happy.

Exactly. Before USB-C this wouldn’t have been worth it for developers, but with TV/Monitor output I can totally see this being useful for some gamers who either can’t afford or don’t have the space for a gaming PC or console. Then there’s the fact that it becomes a way more portable experience than even a Steam Deck. If you travel a lot it opens up a lot of possibilities without having to add another device to your bag.

Being able to sideload emulators would be amazing, especially if you could unlock jit without needing a remote debugger

For now I use a browser based emulator, afterplay, which is flawless for SNES/GBA and it includes DS but performance could be better for that.

Apple should step up and release an official games controller. The third party options haven’t really created enough momentum, and selling PlayStation controllers has always seemed a bit odd.

An Apple controller could have interesting features like a MagSafe mount and Vision Pro integration, there a lot of possibilities left on the table currently.

They’ve done one better by supporting the 3 most prominent controllers on the planet. I have an Xbox. Most gamers have a console. So they have controllers already.

Apple making their own is pointless. Now if they spun off a gaming studio with their own console and exclusives, now that’s something!

They once had a game console and exclusives

I thinks it's just a matter of time. I also think the next Apple TV generation will be a big step forwards for gaming.

Given their focus in form over function in other similar accessories like the mouse and apple tv remote I'd rather they didn't.

Death Stranding is super interesting to see. Hope this marks a new era of decent mobile ports.

@octalfudge is no one thinking this may be setting the stage for console gaming on the Apple Vision Pro?

I don’t know if I’d play pancake games on the Vision but no one knows what it will be good at yet
