Before I spend money (15 eur is not cheap, but is worth it for this app, imo), I want to know if it's not just a visual ad removal but the data collection and all the tracking gets actually disabled. I don't want to pay for ad removal. I want to pay to keep my data mine.

[-] protput@lemmy.world 43 points 1 year ago

It says €19 here. (a year!!) No offence for the dev. But I fucking hate subscription based services. I really wanted to support the dev and have an ad free experience. But this is imo a bridge too far. I hope many people support him. But count me out.. Sorry.

[-] Razp@lemm.ee 41 points 1 year ago

There is a new option to remove ads forever for 15. No subscriptions.

[-] grte@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 year ago

Perfect. This solves my only issue.

[-] Razp@lemm.ee 11 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

That was many people's only issue :)

On beta 25 it's on the drawer, between Settings and Get Ultra menus. A new Remove ads button

[-] GanonMS@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

It might not be appearing. Make sure the app is up to date.

The option to just remove ads is a little ways under the account switcher, not where you usually buy Sync Ultra.

[-] GanonMS@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

It does appear, it's £19.

[-] El_Rocha@lm.put.tf 23 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Welp, for me in Portugal it shows up as 23€....

I remember the good days when I bought Sync Pro for 2,69€...

[-] ComradeBunnie@aussie.zone 18 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I'm seeing AUD$~~35~~ $33.99.

I paid AUD$1.91 ten years ago for "reddit sync pro" (I believe it was on sale).

I was expecting to pay around $10-$15 to block ads, so this is a bit of a shock.

[-] Razp@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago

Are you sure you are on beta 25? It shows me 15 eur when clicking "remove ads", not get ultra

[-] ComradeBunnie@aussie.zone 12 points 1 year ago

I didn't see the option at all last night. This morning the app updated, and now I see the remove ads option.

[-] protput@lemmy.world 17 points 1 year ago

An insane amount of money to remove ads. Guess I'm going to keep using Liftoff.

[-] ComradeBunnie@aussie.zone 13 points 1 year ago

Connect is free and fantastic, and the dev(s) are adding new features regularly. I'm a bit torn, as I loved Sync for Reddit and was happy to give my money again for Sync for Lemmy - just not quite that much of it.

[-] circuitfarmer@lemmy.sdf.org 0 points 1 year ago

Maybe give Summit a try. It's similar to Sync, but ad free.

[-] Razp@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago

Damn, kangaroo dollars are cheap...

[-] blackn1ght@feddit.uk 12 points 1 year ago

It's showing £18.99 for me, which is a lot. I thought it was going to be like £2.99!

[-] bitaites@kbin.social 11 points 1 year ago

@El_Rocha
It was already ridiculous an hour ago when it was priced at 16€ (compared to $12 everywhere else).
I want to support the app but 23€ in our economy is simply ludicrous.

[-] El_Rocha@lm.put.tf 7 points 1 year ago

Exactly. I hope this is an experimental price. Otherwise, I'll have to drop this app.

[-] psychic717@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

I'm on the same boat here, bought pro at the time was would gladly buy the ad removal here but 23€ is just a big no.

[-] mp3@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 year ago

I bought Sync Pro for that.. almost 10 years ago. IMO a polished Lemmy app with that many years of experience and tune-up is worth more than the original price.

[-] protput@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago

Max €10 imo. Even that is on the high side just to remove ads. But that is something I would be willing to pay. And only because I know it is a good app. New customers will never even pay €10.

[-] Jyek@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 year ago

The developer is full time dedicated to development of this app. We are his income. People can't stand the idea of paying for the things they use. Get over yourselves. You pay $70 for a video game you play for 20 hours but less than 1/3 the price for something you use every day for years and suddenly that's way too much money. If you don't want it don't buy it. Nobody is making you.

[-] protput@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

Exactly. Nobody is making me and I won't. But we are at a place of discussion here, so I guess I can add my perspective. It is a lot of money just to remove ads. You can't deny that. I'm just wishing him the best of luck selling it to new users for that price. The only users that will buy it for that price are the reddit sync fans.

[-] antik@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

I feel that 2 Euro per month for something I use that much isn't really that bad of a deal. But I just want to support Lemmy and the developers that make this all happen. I also did some donations to other devs (Alexandrite this month) but Sync is the most polished and feature-rich app by far imo.

[-] Razp@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

Caralho! Are you clicking Get Ultra or Remove Ads?

[-] El_Rocha@lm.put.tf 3 points 1 year ago

Remove ads... Ultra is 18,99€ per year.

[-] Razp@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago

Portugal tax then, I guess

[-] SaintWacko@midwest.social 21 points 1 year ago

Yep, the ad sdk doesn't even initialize if you've paid to remove ads

[-] Razp@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago

How do you know? You aren't lj :)

Lol it was a discord screenshot that I saw posted in a comment section in this sub several hours ago, go knock yourself out looking for it

Edit: never mind turns out it was actually pretty easy to find considering it was in the comments for the post about privacy concerns

[-] ljdawson@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

Confirming this is the case.

[-] HolyFriedFish@lemm.ee 9 points 1 year ago

This is exactly why I haven't downloaded it - I was looking forward to Sync for Lemmy, and I've been using Connect in the meantime. But Connect doesn't collect any data, according to Google Play, and Sync does. I'm on the fence about paying to keep my data my own, at this point.

[-] Razp@lemm.ee 6 points 1 year ago

If the ads sdk is not initialized for the paid version, and no data is collected, then there is no issue.

[-] HolyFriedFish@lemm.ee 7 points 1 year ago

Except for data shared in the moments before I purchase, sure. Which is what leaves me on the fence, to be honest. Hopefully there will be more info about how this is handled soon.

[-] Razp@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago

Sure, but you can do a GDPR request to delete it, if you are an EU resident

[-] HolyFriedFish@lemm.ee 9 points 1 year ago

I wish I could, but I'm in the US. And on the Google Play store it says data can't be deleted, so I'm assuming that since I'm not in the EU, there will be no leniency for me. The more I think about it, the less I want to deal with it, personally. With that being said, I recognize that not everyone will agree with me, and of course that's perfectly fine.
